Ultherapy ® or Facelift – What Do I Need?

With so many good options for facial rejuvenation available today, it can be tricky to decide which option is best. Some patients I examine would like to improve upon the signs of aging on their faces and are curious whether there are any non-surgical alternatives to facelift surgery that might work. At my Sacramento-area practice, I often recommend Ultherapy for such patients. So how do you know which option is best for you?

Ultherapy is appropriate for those who have more minor facial aging or for those who wish to stave off the need for surgery for as long as possible. This non-invasive procedure uses ultrasound energy to tighten skin and kick-start collagen growth, billing itself as an “uplift” rather than a “facelift.” Ultherapy is often a good choice for patients in their 40s as a preventive procedure. Because it encourages collagen to grow and strengthens the skin, those who get it done regularly at a younger age may find they don’t need a surgical procedure for a lot longer than if they had skipped the Ultherapy.

For some patients with more advanced signs of aging, starting with a facelift may be best, followed by regular Ultherapy sessions to maintain the surgical results and keep collagen in check.

The surest way to determine the right option for you is by consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience with both Ultherapy and facial surgery.
