Smart Lipo or VASER Liposelection for losing inches on abdomen and waist

I am a 38 year old female with a small frame 5'3 and weighs 185lbs. I carry most of my weight in my stomach. I am considering plastic surgery, but Tummy Tucks scare me because of the down time and I really dont have it to spare. Will Smart Lipo or VASER Liposelection help me lose considerable inches on my abdomen and waist?

A: Consider the VASER liposuction for more effective body contouring

Stephen A. Goldstein, MD

I have found that laser lipolysis such as Smart Lipo is only effective in treating very small volumes of fat and inconsistent with skin tightening. Personally, I have been very pleased with the results obtained by using VASER® liposuction technology. This form of liposuction employs the use of low level... more

Hi there, I understand your goal, and would love to tell you that there is a good option for you to safely achieve them. Body contouring procedures, however are not very effective or safe options for weight loss, but are best thought of as re-shaping procedures. At 5'3" and 185, I would suggest a medical... more

Both procedures in good hands will product excellent results.  Currently there are only a few locations were you can have the SmartLipo MPX done.  The SmartLipo MPX is a newer version of SmartLipo that breaks apart fat much more efficiently than the older machines.  I have been involved with all three machines and the Vaser and SmarLipo MPX are the only two that are really comparable Even with this new MPX technology, which continues to advance every few months, an experienced physician with the Vaser can still get rid of more fat if given the same amount of time.  In the next six months this will like change with some new developments for the SmartLipo MPX. That being said, first and foremost go with the most experienced provider.  You want the one that has the best results and lowest side effects.  After those questions are answered then consider Vaser vs. SmartLipo MPX.

Dear Keishat, I can understand your concern about a tummy tuck procedure.  That being said, no procedure is a "substitute" for another.  If you have a certain look or goal in mind and a tummy tuck is what you need, SmartLipo/VASER/etc... is not going to be able to duplicate that result. That being said, to lose significant inches around your area of concern, SmartLipo, VASER, traditional lipo, tumescent lipo, etc... all of these can give you a satisfactory result.  More importantly than the technology is the surgeon as again, you can get good results with any number of procedures.  I hope this helps!  Good luck.
