How long does a Microdermabrasion session take?

I had microdermabrasion (for acne scaring, oily skin, and clogged pores) for the first time. To my suprise, the microdermabrasion portion only lasted about 5 minutes, and the "facial" for the rest of the hour. Is that normal? How long does it usually take?

It depends on the esthetician. One time I had it and it took over a half hour for the microdermabrasion alone. The esthetician was meticulous. My skin was red for a few days then peeled for a few more. After a couple weeks my skin was beautiful. I went to another esthetician recently and had the same experience as you. I am honestly somewhat disappointed and am going to request her to focus more on the microdermabrasion in the next session.
