This is a great question. The shape that you get after a tummy tuck is dependent on your frame but also the technique of the plastic surgeon. I include liposuction of the flanks in all my tummy tucks to accentuate the flanks. I also pull the skin in a certain way, also to create an "hourglass" figure. Many surgeons may not appreciate this, and their results look "square". I would also recommend wearing a compression garment after the tummy tuck. This will help with the swelling and further improve your shape. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.

You are correct on one level. As you know people come in all shapes and sizes and some ethnicities also have a leaning to a certain type body habitus. Some women also have a more masculine shape as do some men with a more feminine shape. On the other hand the tummy tuck may need to be contoured with liposuction not only at the hip area as some other plastic surgeons mentioned here but in the upper abdomen and pubis regions as well. Also many surgeons don't tighten the abdominal musculature as much as is needed and as a result the patient may still look a bit stocky or "boxy" as you mentioned.
