Is the Application of a Cooling Gel Necessary Before IPL Skin Rejuvenation?

The therapist I have booked a treatment with does not apply a cooling gel to the face before treatment, and only cools the skin with a cool pack. Will this affect the results of the treatment?

Using IPL with gel may enhance effect

Using a clear gel with the IPL often not only cools the skin, but also reduces reflection of the IPL waves from the skin. This makes the treatment more efficient.

It depends on the machine

Whether or not gel is used really depends upon the IPL device. All systems use some form of cooling to protect the skin. Some have built in cooling and do not require the gel. Some need the gel to help diffuse heat and cool the skin.
