Neck Lifts without ear incisions

Brent Moelleken, MD answers: Neck lift without cutting near the ear?

Is there any way to avoid cuting in or around the ear to do a Neck lift?

For younger patients with a bad profile and not too much loose skin, a neck lift with an incision only below the chin may be ideal. This allows removal of fat and tightening of the platysma muscle, both important steps in correcting the 'double chin'. Our version of this procedure involves a wide interlacing technique (Neck-Lace (TM). For patients who are older and have a great deal of extra skin, or require restructuring of the deep layer (for jowl reduction), a facelift will give the best results.

A: It depends on the surgeon and the surgery.

Usually you won't get as good a neck lift that way. The reason that we do it inside the ear is so the scar won't show. Also, skin must be removed in most patients and you can't do that thru a small incision under the chin. See an experienced facelift surgeon and let him give you the pros and cons of your problem's solutions.
