I totally agree the operator of the instrument must be experienced with that device and is an important part of the equation....but all wands are not alike either.
In the area you are considering, there are several variables.
The wavelength of the device: CO2, Erbium , and the newest YSGG (Pearl)
The physics of each of these are beyond the scope of this question/answer, but I prefer the Pearl for its comination of
1) removal of upper pigmentation and fine lines
2) easy recovery period
3) stimulation of lower dermis to make more collagen and elastin as time goes on.
The second aspect is whether the laser is resurfacing (horizontal surface treatment) or fractional (little holes drilled into the skin).
Fractional component is good for deeper wrinkles, pores , texture and acne scars.
The Pearl andPearl fractional can do both: this is called Pearl Fusion.
There ask your doctor why the "choose" to use the specific device and why did they choose it over the other alternatives. It is the understanding of the physics of how that laser reacts with the skin that will set your doctor apart. Also, ask if it is the doctor performing the procedure or a staff member.
