Radiesse featured in 5 new dermatology journal studies
The maker of Radiesse (BioForm Medical, Inc.) announced the publication of five studies in the June 2008 issue of the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery.
The five published clinical and preclinical reports were:
1. A 52-Month Summary of Results Using Calcium Hydroxylapatite for Facial Soft Tissue Augmentation, written by Dr. Thomas Tzikas, MD, who is a Miami facial plastic surgeon.
Translation: Dr. Tzikas studied how long Radiesse really lasts.
2. An Investigation of Changes in Physical Properties of Injectable Calcium Hydroxylapatite in a Carrier Gel When Mixed with Lidocaine and with Lidocaine/Epinephrine - Mariano Busso, MD, and Robert Voigts, MS.
Translation: Dr. Mariano Busso is a Miami dermatologist, who studied the effects of pain medication mixed with Radiesse.
3. Radiographic and Computed Tomographic Studies of Calcium Hydroxylapatite for Treatment of HIV-Associated Facial Lipoatrophy and Correction of Nasolabial Folds - Alastair Carruthers, MD, Marc Liebeskind, MD, JD, Jean Carruthers, MD, AND Bruce B. Forster, MD.
Translation: Dr. Alastair Carruthers and Dr. Jean Carruthers practice together at Carruthers Dermatology, both are Vancouver dermatologists. Their study investigated the use of Radiesse for facial atrophy in HIV patients, originally this type of patient was treated with Sculptra.
4. Calcium Hydroxylapatite Filler for Facial Rejuvenation: A Histologic and Immunohistochemical Analysis - Alexander L Berlin, MD, Mussarratt Hussain, MD, and David J. Goldberg, MD
Translation: This study looked at Radiesse in terms of the immune system. Dr. David J. Goldberg is a New York City dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon who frequently answers questions on RealSelf.com.
5. Neocollagenesis after Injection of Calcium Hydroxylapatite Composition in a Canine Model - Kyle M. Coleman, MD, Robert Voigts, MS, Dale P. Devore, PHD, Paul Termin, DVM, PHD, and William P. Coleman, III, MD.
Translation: This study looked at new collagen growth following injection of Radiesse (in a dog). Dr. William Coleman is a dermatologist in New Orleans, Louisiana.
