Swap Those Saline Implants For Silicone Already

Oklahoma City plastic surgeon Juan Brou says breast implants should only last about ten years.

Dr. Brou says most women exchange their first pair with a new set when they don't look good anymore and their size or shape needs a change. So they're coming in "not necessarily for medical reasons, but cosmetic just like the first time."

Other reasons for implant exchange include scar tissue which forms around the implants, or that an older pair saline implants shows rippling. Dr. Brou says he considers the new silicone implants to perform better, and the feel of silicone is more natural for the patient.

Elle Magazine investigated planned obsolescene in breast implants in the July 2008 issue, discussed by Real Beauty News in the post How Are Breast Implants Like a Ford Pickup?
