Brides Who Botox and Whiten Their Bridesmaids

Real Beauty News on Jul 25, 2008

Yesterday the New York Times profiled women who had Botox parties for their bridesmaids to get ready for the big day, and apparently the folks at the Early Show read the paper, because on this morning's CBS Early Show, host Julie Chen opens a segment about the Modern Bride of the Year contest by asking her cohost if he knows about the hot new trend for brides, "to give Botox as a gift to her bridesmaids, for the photos?"

The Times article followed a bride and her bridesmaids to a New York medical spa as they underwent skin analysis and received treatment plans for pre-wedding beautification, and also interviewed a Beverly Hills dermatologist about how to properly time cosmetic treatment for the big day.

In another timely media coincidence, the editor of Fitness magazine appeared on Fox's morning program Better, to talk about a recent survey of brides given by the magazine.

When asked what they would to do lose weight before their weddings, 36% said they would take diet pills, 1 in 7 would fast for a week, and 6% said they would have plastic surgery.

Many medical spas and plastic surgeons market to the bride-to-be, offering packages and treatments that help with weight loss and skin rejuvenation and wedding day preparations are a very popular topic on RealSelf:

A patient reviewing her Botox treatment said, "I had a terrible experience... It was my step-daughters wedding that I was going to attend in 2 weeks and I thought why not look refreshed?" Read more of this review

And from a Juvederm review, "I did this to look good for my September wedding, now I have to postpone this for another year due to this nightmare..." Read more

A quick search for the word "wedding" within RealSelf will yield some terrific reading!
