Boston Dermatologist Likes Fraxel For Neck and Chest

Boston dermatologist Rachel Herschenfeld contributes her skin care expertise to the Washington Post in a column called Skin Sense. Her latest piece focuses on skin care for the neck and chest, saying "much of the advice about facial skin care is applicable below the chin."
Dr. Herschenfeld recommends the usual sunscreen, retinol, and glycolic products, along with IPL treatment and Fraxel. The Fraxel laser has emerged as a viable treatment for rejuvenating sensitive skin on the neck and chest. Because of fractional technology, which penetrates deep but resurfaces only part (a fraction) of the dermis, these sensitive areas are easier to treat.
The Fraxel laser is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, and patients can be treated with a low risk of scarring. There are other, more economical options to consider if you have skin issues on your neck that have emerged as a result of sun damage or aging. Of course the easiest is sunscreen, especially on the back and side of the neck where sun damage is most common.
Herschenfeld advises that a modest amount of retinol is also a good choice for retroactively improving texture.
