Mini Tummy Tuck Overview

By RealSelf
  • A mini tummy tuck (also called a "mini tuck" or mini abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to tighten loose skin on the lower abdomen. Unlike a full tummy tuck, a mini tuck involves a short, horizontal incision on the lower abdomen, and the navel is left intact.
  • Plastic surgeons believe that a "mini tuck" yields "mini" results, thus most patients undergo the full tummy tuck; with the mini you get 1/2 of the full tummy tuck's scar, but only 25% of the result.
  • A mini tummy tuck results in a scar that has the same length as a typical c-section (half the distance from hipbone to hipbone).
  • The mini tummy tuck allows for tightening the lower abdomen, but does nothing for the upper abdomen.

I'm probably a candidate for a mini TT since I don't have upper abdomen fat. My lower abdomen has loose skin, from three children, and no amount of exercise or diet changes it.

I would have to examine you but it sounds like you may be right. If its just the lower abdomen, below the belly button, than you may be a good candidate for a mini tummy-tuck. Dr. Barrett Beverly Hills, CA

If a mini TT is so "mini" in terms of results, then why did my doctor recommend it? And why do so many of the before and after pics of a mini TT look good?

I agree, I had a mini TT yesterday w/lipo and I can tell a huge difference! EveryBODY is different though-I was not a candidate for full TT & I didn't want one!
