How Should I Wait For Fraxel Laser After Using Accutane?

Hello!I am 17 years old and I am from Romania.I've been on accutane for 9 months(severe acne):2 months-30mg/day 1,5 months 20mg/day 1,5 months 10mg/day and the last 4 months 20mg/week.After that treatment I finally get rid of my acne but now there is a problem with my scars. I want to know how long should I wait for doing Fraxel Laser treatment.I read here that I should wait at least 6 mounths before any laser treatment, but my accutane dossage for the last 4 months was 20mg/week.Thank you!

A: How long to wait for acne scar therapy after Accutane

I always recommend that patients wait at least 6m after Accutane. In the early days of CO2 resurfacing, patients who were taking Accutane and had this procedure developed keloids. It also allows your body to make as much change as it is capable of doing. Patience is the key!

Fraxel and Facelift Done Within the Same Year?

I have been to a couple of plastic surgeons. One says to get facelift, another says to get Fraxel. Can I have the Fraxel done first and then do the facelift in the same year? I also just had Thermage done 1 month ago, with no results. Will this affect any of these procedures?

A: Perhaps you should have both Fraxel and Facelift at the same session

Our routine current facelift now includes the use of the Mixto laser usually as part of the same session. It is entirely safe (we have already done over 50 patients since we acquired it the Mixto.)

This allows us to remove surgically excess skin, tighten the remaining skin, as well as deal with weathering and fine wrinkles at the same session. It gives a tremendous amount of improvement using less invasive techniques and making the most of "synergy" where each modality compliments the other. You also have the advantage of one operative event, one recovery, and less expense than having multiple procedures seperately.

We have completely retired our Fraxel as less effective, too painful, and not the equal of other lasers now on the market, especially the Mixto. That is our personal opinion having had experience with many resurfacing lasers dating back almost 15 years.

A: Facelift better than Thermage or Fraxel for loose skin

For sagging skin at the face and neck , there really is no substitute for a good facelift. "Skin tightening" procedures such as Thermage and Fraxel can only deliver a tiny amount of tightening (we're talking millimeters). I would not recommend that you waste your time and money on Fraxel (or Thermage) treatment prior to facelift, as the lift will accomplish most of the work. If you wait several months after your facelift, you could consider having Thermage or Fraxel if you still wish to. Instead, however, I usually recommend fractional CO2 laser treatment after the facelift. This not only further tightens the collagen fibers to help "lock-in" your result, but it also smoothes the texture and appearance of the skin surface, removing fine lines and brown discoloration. Bear in mind, also, that your Thermage treatment was done only one month ago, so you may get an additional small amount of skin tightening over the next 5 months. (But don't expect much).
