This has been really hard. I got really bruised and also it hurt a lot. I felt like there were little bugs in my face that I could not scratch out. I am really swollen and look like a cat. Everywhere i go people stare at me and make snide remarks behind my back. Hopefully, this will be worth it... more »

I had fat transfer under eyes in my early 20ties to plump up the hollows. It was way overdone and I have been getting cortisone shots to dissolve it and it is fine for maybe a month and then it starts growing back. Within a few months, it is all back and looks very abnormal - see pictures. I... more »

I used to be so happy with myself , except for some wrinkling on my lower eyelids that I thought would be fixed by the fat transfer procedure. I went to a doctor that had great before and afters, but unfortunately, he did not tell me that i had any other options besides the fat transfer. Had i... more »

I just had my 1st stage fat transfer done on Thursday. I'm still in the recovery phase and won't really see the final outcome of the procedure for weeks. I know I won't be disappointed. I have been using fillers to add volume to my face and that was just getting too costly. Fat... more »

At age 46 I didn't like the sagging crepe like skin that was appearing on my cheeks so I had a fat transfer along with a facelift and brow lift in November 2009. I really loved the results. I didn't look pulled or altered just younger and refreshed. I have had many compliments. A... more »

Friends teased that if I had more fat in my face, I wouldn't have so many wrinkles. Fat transfer made a big difference for me. My hands and face were injected with fat taken from ab and hips. Pros were it was a minor procedure, with no pain, no more nervous than if you were having a... more »

Fat transfer: was it worth it?

Fat Transfer Information

  • Fat transfer is the injection of fat to various areas of the body to increase volume. Fat transfer of viable fat cells can augment the treated area, such as the face, cheeks, lips, buttocks, and chin.
  • Fat transfer is also called fat grafting or fat injection.  The procedure is a complex process: fat must be harvested in such a way as to preserve the integrity of the fat cells. Ordinary liposuction, laser liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction that disrupts the cell membrane of the fat cell will not produce living fat cells. Concentration of the fat and washing the fat will also affect the results.
  • The fat injection technique is important. Surgeons with a great deal of experience with fat transfer will tell patients that that the results are permanent. However, as you age lose volume in your face, the fat grafting procedure may have to be repeated.
  • Bad fat transfer results may be the result of a poor technique due to the fact the fat grafts were not viable.
  • Fat grafts take better in more highly vascularized area such as the face and do not do as well in highly mobile areas such as the lips.
  • Fat transfer can also help reduce the appearance of acne scars
