In all the breast lift surgeries that I've done, I've had no patients, to date, that have reported permanent numbness or sensory loss to the nipple areola, and that's really the key concern. Now having said that, if you look at any good plastic surgery textbook on cosmetic breast surgery, loss of sensation is always a risk of any procedure whether it be a breast augmentation, a lift or a reduction. Fortunately this is very, very rare. I think the way we minimize these risks is that we keep the blood supply and we keep the nerves attached to the nipple areola to make sure that you don't have loss of sensation. You may experience some temporary sensory changes that generally go away by themselves in several weeks after surgery.
