The Brazilian Buttock Lift essentially, is a fat transfer procedure where we’re taking fat from areas that you may have excess such as the love handles, the flanks, or the back, or the tummy area. And, we’re actually carefully liposuctioning that fat. We’re concentrating that fat. So, we get the good fat cells and concentrating them and then, we’re injecting the fat cells into the center mound of the buttock area to create that more feminine contour posteriorly in the buttock area. That’s also performed in conjunction with liposculpting of the buttock because some women have a boxier shaped buttock, and they’d like to have a little bit more of a rounded shape to the buttock or the buttock, a little more lifted. So, fat transfer in conjunction with liposuctioning and liposculpting is really what Brazilian Buttock Lift procedures are all about.

Anytime we do liposuctioning, I always tell patients that the most important thing in the recovery process is compression, compression, compression. Why is compression so important? Well, anywhere we liposuction, whether we’re just doing some straightforward liposuction with any technology, or we’re doing the Brazilian Buttock Lift which involves lipsuctioning a harvest fat and transferring it somewhere else into the buttock, anywhere we liposuction, there’s going to be swelling. And I always tell patients that, liposuction patients, that if I liposuction, say, your tummy area, that afternoon, you’re going to go home and you’re going to see your results and you’re going to be like, “I love it.”

But if you’re not wearing your compression garments, the next morning, you’re going to look at your results in the mirror and you’re going to say, “Wait a minute, Dr. Basu didn’t take out enough. It’s back.” It’s because it’s swelling. And so, what keeps that swelling down are compression garments or binders. And each surgeon has a preference of what type of garment. But regardless of what type of garment, I think the concept of compression is very important for two things. Number one, it helps keep your swelling down so that you could see your results faster; and number two, it helps prevent fluid pockets or fluid collections that could occur in those empty spaces. So, the compression garments help to compress those areas down so you don’t get a fluid collection. So, compression garments are really, really important in any liposuction procedure.
