Male Voice: When we meet with you during a consultation, we'll review your past medical history and your overall health status. To be a candidate for a DIEP flap, you have to be healthy enough for a longer elective surgery. In addition, we have to look at your past surgical history. Have you had a lot of abdominal surgery in the past? And does that make you a good candidate or a poor candidate for a DIEP flap surgery. These are the things that we will address during the initial consultation. In addition, we also have to look at your cancer treatment plan. So the questions are will you require radiation or have you undergone radiation and what is the timing of all these treatments? Based on your cancer care plan, we'll determine whether you are a good candidate for immediate reconstruction or delayed reconstruction or, a third option, which is a new or delayed immediate technique. All of this will be reviewed during your consultation.
