Getting Botox under the arms for sweating: Does it hurt?

When patients get Botox under their arms to stop sweating which is a very popular treatment especially when people are getting married and don't want to sweat in their wedding dress or men have rings onto their arms and their shirts, it's actually a very easy treatment. People think that it might be painful under your arms and it really isn't and it tends to last 6 to 12 months. It's a really nice long treatment.

What happens when I stop my treatment?

Botox is a muscle relaxer and it's kind of like when you go to the gym and you work out and your muscles get bigger and then you stop working out and your muscles get smaller. When you, for example get Botox in these muscles, if you don't use it, the muscles get big and they get strong. You use it and they relax and they don't get so built up again and your lines go away and everything gets better.

And then, if you stop using it, gradually those muscles start to exercise again and they build up and you go back to having stronger muscles and getting lines. But, you will have a benefit for a period of time not having that happen, so you're better off than if you never did it. Botox is very helpful at stopping the prevention of wrinkles as well as it is for getting rid of wrinkles that are already there. If you never crunch those muscles, and never get those lines, you don't damage the skin and you never have those lines.
