Swollen Abdomen and Painful Incision 7 Months Post Surgery

I am 7 months post Extended Tummy tuck and Liposuction of flanks and legs. My stomach is still swollen as if I had surgery yesterday. The incisions are very sore and painful. I am retaining water in my legs, feet and hands and no it’s not due to high salt in my diet. This has been going on for the last 3 months and I have contacted my surgeon several times and he said it’s normal. I have researched this surgery several times and never have i found this to be true. Could a plastic surgeon in the group please advise me on what I need to do because this pain and discomfort is becoming unbearable? I’ve seen my PCP and she has prescribed me a diuretic and scheduled me to see a cardiologist to perform a stress test and echocardiogram to ensure that the edema is not due to a cardiac problem.

Well Worth It!

Four days post surgery and I am doing great. Was unsuccessful with urinating on my day of discharge so i had to go home with a catheter from the surgery center. Nurses say this is not uncommon.

Speaking of nurses, the care that i received from the Timonium Surgery Center far EXCEEDED my EXPECTATIONS!! The entire staff was very polite, professional and attentive. I highly recommend this place if you have to stay overnight, you will not be disappointed!

Returned to the Dr. Schreiber’s office to have the catheter removed and an hour later i was successful at having a bowel movement and urinating so there will be no extra trips to the ED for me thank God!! Thus far my pain has been controlled with the schedule of oxycodone, Motrin and Tylenol.

Stopped taking the narcotic after 3 days because i was concerned about getting constipated and i don’t like taking narcotics. So far i can’t see the difference because i still have on my binder and and all the bandages however i will give another update on Friday once the bandages are removed.
