Nice Incisions, Poor Service and Results.

I had surgery in October of 2021. I’ll give my honest review. Dr. Schiesel is not as friendly AFTER services are rendered and money is collected. Once you voice any type of dissatisfaction, she begins to avoid you, as does her front office staff. I also ran into an issue when my insurance provider attempted to get an itemized bill from the hospital since the Dr. refused to provide me with one. Our provider seemed concerned when she finally received the invoice from OU hospital and an additional 20k was charged to the hospital and charged off from the hospitals “cosmetic fund” which should be used for patients who’ve experienced trauma (burns, etc) and can’t afford services. Another concern was the anesthesiologist. Dr. Schiesel also “contracts” with an anesthesiologist that goes by the name Trevor Bright. When I called his offices to get an itemized invoice so we could send it to insurance, they could NOT even find a file with my name or any information pertaining to services rendered. Our insurance was also unsuccessful obtaining any information.
Lastly, although I will say her incisions are low and somewhat neat, she totally botched my belly button. I inquired about it since DAY 2 and she tells me the same thing…. “You’re healing great. Give it time.” She came off as rather dismissive every time I brought up a concern. I still have extra skin that needs to be removed and I’ll also need a scar revision to correct some scarring that didn’t heal well. I’ve had several consults since then with other providers, my hernia was not properly repaired and my muscle repair also wasn’t properly repaired. I’m having a revision in May and I’m having to pay quite a bit for a reconstructive surgeon to fix her mistakes so for that alone, I could not in good faith recommend her to anyone. The cost “savings” wasn’t worth the headache and the poor aftercare.

I am so sorry you feel this way. We understand you have concerns but cannot address them appropriately if you are unwilling to come to your follow-up appointments, as you only came to your one week post-operative appointment. Our office informed you prior to this surgery that we wouldn't be charging you extra for the hernia repair, so submitting it to insurance would be fraudulent and we weren't willing to do that. All of our rates that are quoted to patients up front are negotiated rates from the hospital and anesthesiology, which is standard for all cosmetic procedures with any surgeon. We take pride in patient care and ultimately want you to be happy with your outcome but feel there is responsibility for the patient to come to appointments as recommended to address concerns. We really want you to be happy in the end and confident in your own skin, as we love to see women thrive.

I’m not going to go back and forth on a public forum but I do want anyone reading this to be aware that although the doctor has tried to fault me for not showing up for post op visits, she not only encouraged but suggested that I just send in photos since I was an out of town patient. I have sent in countless photos and expressed my dissatisfaction only to be told I was healing well and looked great and she went as low as to state, “…just remember what you started with.” I stand by my initial review. My hernia was not properly fixed, my belly button has completely closed and my upper abdominal wall still bulges out and I’m having to pay for a reconstructive surgeon to fix her “work”. The end.

I understand your frustration. You pay a lot of money to come out as bad, even if different, as before. I posted my negative review of Dr. Kurley in Champaign IL about a month ago (along with a picture) because I wanted to point out things to watch for in personality and service. He was extremely dismissive which is hard to deal with when you are legitimately unhappy. I’m sorry you are going through that.

Dr. Kurley and your doctor must have gone to the same college. He said the same thing about “look what I started with”. That’s not the point, it’s where you end up that matters. If he couldn’t give the result he said he would, he shouldn’t have performed the surgery.

You look absolutely amazing , but I definitely understand if you aren't happy you just aren't happy . But FYI you look amazing from the outside looking in

Thank you for that. Like I stated, the incisions are fine with the exception of the vertical incision that healed and is hypertrophic. My reconstructive surgeon said the tension on the vertical incision was way too much and poorly done. My issue is the simple fact that she failed to properly repair both my hernia and abdominal wall and I am having to undergo another surgery to fix her mistakes.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I'm still recovering from my tummy tuck, and also upset about some of my results. What is the name of the surgeon you're going to in May? I'm looking around for someone to correct my errors too.

I cannot give that surgeons info at this time. The only reason is because we are working in conjunction with a medical provider to gather information for a claim against the doctor.

I’ve been calling attorneys to hold Dr Kurley accountable but no luck yet. Can you tell me what kind of attorney you are using or what you are doing to get assistance?

Can you tell me how you are holding the doctor accountable? I’m trying, but no luck yet. Thank you.
