I'm Glad I Did It

I am 44, 5'7 and 188lbs. I made my appointment for an tummy tuck (TT) with muscle repair (MR) and liposuction to my flanks back in January 2020 and had my surgery scheduled for December 3 2020. I had my preop appointment 2 weeks before surgery. The Dr and nurse went over presurgery instructions and I had bloodwork completed and made my final payment. They called in my prescriptions to my pharmacy of my choice and I picked them up a week later. Dr. Farris and his team was very nice and professional. They answered all of my questions.Day of surgery was 4 hours. I rented a lift recliner from rent a center and had it delivered a day before surgery. The agreement was to rent it for at least a month. It cost me about $150. I also purchased a female urinal because it was easier than sitting on the toilet. I'm so glad I did, it came in handy. I used the urinal for about 8 days. I had to wait 2 days before I could shower. I had one drain. I had a shower chair from a surgery before. I used the chair the first shower and held the drain in one hand while washing with the other. That was difficult so next shower I wore a belt around my neck and clipped it to the belt. The second shower I didn't need the chair. It felt better standing. It took a lot out of me maneuvering around the house and talking for about 10-12 days. I was out of breath. I also had a spirometer from a previous surgery that was very useful. I had my follow-up appointment 6 days after surgery and that's when the drain came out. I drove myself because they said I could drive after 5 days. It was easy because I have a backup camera on my car because if I would have had to turn my body to look out the back window would have been pretty hard to do. The drain felt weird and pretty painful coming out. It stung. The doctor taped up where the drain had came out and told me to take it easy for the next couple of days and then I could remove the bandage. He said everything looked great and I could remove the steri-strips in a week and I could lay down in another two weeks. He answered any additional questions that I had and told me to come back in a month.I'm 2 weeks post op while writing this review and I can maneuver around better and breathing is getting easier. I'm not able to stand up straight because the MR is so tight. Every now and then I try to stand as straight as possible for a few seconds. In my mind I'm training my body to stand straight again. The feeling of your nerves waking up is a very uncomfortable feeling. It feels like flutters, sharp pains, like recovering from coolsculpting. The MR healing feels like rolling tides lol. I had to wear the garment belt (provided by the Dr) for two weeks day and night. Now I only wear it during the day for the next 4 weeks. The first week my back was burning with pain due to walking hunched over, not sleeping laying down and wearing the belt. Sleeping in the recliner isn't that comfortable but it's great helping me stand. The incision looks straight and not rugged as I've seen in some photos. My bellybutton is so cute. I'm swollen but not as swollen as I've seen in other photos as well. The first 10 days I didn't have much of an appetite but I ate healthy. Smoothies, salmon and vegetables etc. My favorite snack was cheese, crackers and grapes. The pain level for the first week was pretty bad. I was told I was moaning in my sleep. I stretched the pain meds out by taking tylenol in between so I was able to get a couple more days out of the 3 days the med covered. I still felt like I could have used another 3 day supply but Dr said just take the tylenol. Well you can't take anymore than 6 in a 24 hour period and them alone just did not work so I was frustrated. Now its day 16 and it's not as bad. My stomach feels full most of the time although there are times when my stomach growls.I'll answer any questions I can and will update until my journey is over.

Thanks for sharing your journey! Did you have the exparel? Surprising that they only gave you 3 days of pain meds. I wonder if that's typical

My doctor gave me 7 days worth, no exparel smh.

I'm not sure if it was exparel. I thought 3 days wasn't enough but apparently, that is the standard from what I've read mostly.

7 days would have been enough, I wish I had that

I was looking at you photos wondering how you were able to stand straight so quickly, glad I took the time to read your actual comment. You look great! Hope your recovery is continuing to go well. I'm post op days 6 and impatiently waiting to sleep comfortably and stop walking hunched over. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I'm still walking like an old lady. I know the feeling I want to sleep comfortably as well. Good luck to you also

Not quite what I thought

I am now 20 weeks post-op and I'm not happy with my results. At my 6-week appointment I told the nurse my frustrations and she said I should have gotten an extended tummy tuck. I thought if I had a consultation and pointed out my areas of concern the doctor would recommend exactly what I needed. He never said anything about an extended tummy tuck he quoted me for a tummy tuck and liposuction and it doesn't even appear that I had liposuction done. There are no liposuction holes and my sides were not sore. I also asked for a copy of the procedure report in which they stated would be mailed to me and I still have not gotten them so that lets me know that they didn't do what they charge me for. Plus I paid in cash so it wasn't like he had to wait to get his money. So the nurse told me to wait until my six-month visit and we will talk about it again. I'm hoping to not have to pay more money to get what I want. As of right now I would not recommend this doctor. I don't know if I was treated differently because I don't look like his regular customers. I'm glad my stomach is flat but I'm not happy about my flanks

Now that you mention it, it doesnt look at all like you had liposuction.

Going Back

After my 6 mo follow up the Doctor said I need an extension of the liposuction. I'm still a little disappointed because it's what I asked for in the beginning. So now I have to spend another 4000 on the liposuction to the back and I am adding my bra area. I'm thinking of transferring the fat to my rear but I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking of shopping around for better results as well. I would still recommend this doctor but would definitely make sure he understands what it is you want.
