Essex girl - TT, lipo, BBL with Dr. Fatima Almonte in Dominican Republic.
I’m writing this whilst suffering from extreme pain nearly 3 weeks post op. Let me tell you right now if you are considering this procedure - get ready for PAIN. Get ready for discomfort. Get ready for the real struggle. The sleepless nights. Sharp shooting pain. Nausea and sickness. Headaches.
I’m 5’5 and weighed 5 stone 4 pounds when flying to the Dominican. Making my BMI around 35.4. Please note Almonte has a 35 BMI limit but she doesn’t actually weigh you or measure your height whilst you’re there and my health results were all good so it went ahead.First impressions - staff are cute but don’t expect to see much of Almonte or speak to her. You might be lucky to see her on the consultation day when you get your bloods done, but don’t expect it. I got a kiss on the cheek and a hello and that was all then she was off, I was promised I would see her but then told she was now busy and to come back at 6am the next day to prepare for surgery. Day of surgery comes now, I see Almonte for all of 5 minutes whilst she marks me up, tells me how excited she is to do my procedure and that she’s booked half a day for me (she usually does 3 patients a day but only did 2 on my day). My mum asks what happens if anything goes wrong and she simply says it won’t because she prays to God. I’m then informed I may need a blood transfusion but she’ll sees Then I get told to take the blue pill and I’ll see her later. So half knocked out now blue pill taken in a wheelchair to the operating room. This bit - scary. I pass Almonte in the hall and she smiles whilst two men take me in. I’m awake enough to realise there’s multiple surgery rooms and the doors are open so I can see people on the tables getting operated on, all cut open. Now I get into my room and there’s about 5 women hovering round trying to get a cannula in my hand, jab it multiple times so I’m bleeding and crying at this point whilst they’re trying to comfort me in Spanish and someone manages to insert it in my other hand.Time to wake up! Waking up in a room with multiple people whilst the anaesthetic wears off, you feel paralysed I was literally trying to force myself to wake up but it wasn’t working I kept dozing off again.Back to my hospital room finally. 4 people pick me up and put me onto my bed. No blood transfusion, hooray. Confusion, vomiting and pain - everywhere. The overnight nurse was not as expected as I was told she’d speak English and didn’t - even fell asleep then apologised saying she had a small baby. I then returned to my recovery house (Kindness/Serenity - please let me know if you’d like more info) the next day and didn’t see Almonte for 5 days. Let me just stress to you recovery is TOUGH, it’s so so difficult and there’s times you will just think why did I do this. Fast forward 5 days, see Almonte she cleans me up redoes my dressing and then I leave. Now I return two days later for my final consultation before leaving to go back to the UK, kissed hello and then she sits around with her colleagues laughing joking in Spanish for around 10/15 mins. Finally I go in to have my last check up with her, she looks at me says I look beautiful - takes a box of chocolates and walks off leaving me with Tania (her assistant doctor). Tania cleans me up, answers my questions etc. That’s the last I saw of Almonte! No goodbye, no nothing. I saw her outside laughing taking pics with her colleague as I was leaving.Anyways, my results look good, really good. But could’ve had a better bedside manner.
