Disappointing Experience

Let me start by saying that the doctor himself is okay, but his office team is horrible. I had a tummy tuck four weeks ago with Dr. Simmons. Despite having my hesitations and wanting to cancel many times based on his reviews and past records, I had already given my deposit before doing my research—a big mistake.

Communication with his staff was a major issue for me. Getting basic answers to simple questions took days, and I had to send multiple messages. When I tried to cancel, I was told that I would not get my deposit back and would be charged a fee.

The horror really started before surgery. When I arrived at his office, they tried to charge me over $3000 extra, which required multiple clarifications to rectify. The doctor saw me for 2.5 seconds and walked out of the room, leaving many of my questions unanswered. On the day of surgery, I only saw him for another brief moment before he walked out again.

The anesthesiologist was extremely rude, to the point where I wanted to walk out. He spoke to me like I was a child, in a condescending and racist manner. He repeatedly asked if I smoked, and even when I said no, he kept asking if I smoked weed, as if he didn't believe that, as a Black person, I didn't smoke. He handed me the IV bag so harshly that it almost fell on the floor. He kept on telling me to do something with my hair . My hair was up on a bun, he wanted me to make it looser for god knows what. It wasn’t even him asking, it was the way he asked. He didn’t know I understood Spanish, the media guy asked why he placed the BP cuff on my forearm, he said to him over and over “ her arms are humongous, big , so big, never seen arms so big, this is while on laying on the operating table etc. Etc.

There’s so much that happened that I can't even detail it all. Now, four weeks post-op, not one person has called to check on me. I don’t even have contact information in case I have questions. My incision is open, and I don't know what to do. They never checked if I was alive after the surgery. I woke up, they put me in my car, and that was that.

I am so lucky I did not do my breast surgery as well; I would have been in deep trouble now. Don’t let his Instagram videos fool you—it’s all a show.
