WORTH IT
I am 6 wks out till my panniculectomy and as excited as am for am also freaked the f out!! I have been in this process since September and am finally on my surgery countdown... I am 40 and have went from 280 to 185 naturally... but the slapping belly sag is the worse part of it all... after three children and massive weight gain there is no way I can "work" this skin off so here I am about to get it cut off... will try to keep this up and current.. seems like real info isn't out there so here we go!

The anticipation is killing me!! But in just two weeks I go for my pre op and register at the hospital and finally got my blood work done today... here is hoping I don't have another cancelation from the doctor and get pushed back again... so excited so but still freaking out... just hope this sag is gone and my belly is flatter.. trying to stick to a healthy diet and get back to where I was when I first visited my doctor, but a sinus infection and a round of antibiotics bloated me up and added 10 lbs.. can't believe that happened! But it's falling off lb by lb now so should be fine to see the doctor... tick tick tick!

You can do this! We each have had our struggles and weight loss. Don't freak yourself out....not gonna lie to you..it hurts!!! So just be prepared for that. But it is worth it....I'm 6 weeks out and still not seeing what i'd like but it's better than where I started. Just listen to what the PS tell you...DO NOT DO ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO AND KEEP THAT BINDER ON!!!! Best advice I can give you. Also expect to cry like you're pregnant about 2-3 weeks out....I don't know why...we just do! Remember this all takes time with the healing it's not over night like you think it's going to be. Make sure you take out fat pants to wear (at least two sizes bigger than where you are now) because of swelling. I am still swollen I am just now back into a size 10 (where I started) after this was done i went nack to a 14 talk about being depressed! YIKES!!! So just prepare yourself for all of that. You will do fine....ever have questions you want honest answers to, hit me up! Positive vibes for you and keep us updated!!!!

Thank you so much... count my down the weeks gets very exciting and I am expecting pain discomfort and swelling... can't wait to see where this next step goes! And will defiantly be asking questions

I encourage it! I wish i would have found someone to answer all my crazy questions and listen to my emotions with this...instead i found NO ONE to talk to and felt alone and very much like Frankenstien! They don't tell you the entire truth with this and im beinginng to think most of these women who went from fluff to flat didn't really need it...they don't mention swelling or nothing but i will dang sure tell you the truth!!!!!

Dr. McNemar is fantastic! He did my Mommy makeover 2yrs ago! I had a TT w/muscle repair, breast lift w/saline 600cc implants & lipo of side boob & inside thighs. I LOVE my body! He is an amazing surgeon! He is doing my daughter's breast reduction this summer. You are in great hands! Happy healing ;)

Are you having muscle repair done too? I'm so excited for you!

Just having the apron removed... it's all my insurance will cover.. so no more belly button for me either.. that creeps me out a bit

March 24, 2017
Really no belly button? Your insurance won't cover a new belly button? That's so odd!

March 25, 2017
My doctor said we can take your belly botton so I said oh no I want my belly bottom so he said he would work right below my belly botton

Go look at my pics. Are you having just a horizontal inscision or is he doing the (FDL) horizontal & vertical? Our stomachs looked alike. I had the horizontal first & 8 months later went back for the vertical too.

He's cutting from hip to hip and then up and over my belly button and pulling it all together... figured once I am healed I will be getting a belly button tattoo.. and then later on a scar tattoo if my scar is too gross for me... 3 wks to go boy it's flying by!

Threes weeks and two days to go!! And another week till preop!! I am freaking out! My sinus infection has added 10lbs to my mid section, that's where it always goes.. I do wonder that since I am 10lbs up since my initial appointment with my PS in September if this could effect my surgery... any thoughts!?! I am on full blown diet and exercise mode right now, but aunt flow is showing her ugly little face.. help please!!!

So insurance IS covering this procedure??? I have gone from 242 down to 185. I have 20-30 more I'd like to lose. I get sores under my horrible apron. Is this enough to get insurance to cover it and how big of a fight was it?
March 29, 2017
That is what I used!! I have lost over 80lbs since my last child was born.. I get rashes and sores and have a not so pleasant smell from the sweat under there... I also get back pain and it does effect my sex life.. nothing sexier then your husband having to lift up your skin flap to get up in there...( doctor loved that when I told him) and the more weight I loose the worse the irritation to the skin is.... so after a month of waiting I was fully approved...

Mine was covered by insurance. My doctor did all the leg work for it and got me covered....I don't know what he told them or how he did it....but he did!Good luck with you surgery and recovery!
March 30, 2017
Wow, thanks! My doc office told me I don't have to be seen every time I have a sore but to notify them. I have that smell too from under there. Good grief! Like I said? I want to lose 20-30 more before so I need to get working so I can have the best outcome. It is embaracing with the hubby for sure! Thank u.

I am waiting to find out if OHIP will cover this surgery. I'm hoping to find out very soon! I lost only about 30 lbs, but had the apron well before that. Only my current Doctor has even mentioned that I could see a PS and OHIP may cover it seeing as it is a medical problem. I had never even heard of a panniculectomy until I saw the PS. I had never known anyone else to have this problem, so it's nice to see I am not alone! I get the terrible rash travelling from my C-section (2) scar, going all the way up the sides on both sides of my apron. I cannot stand the odor, and between that and the apron it certainly does not make me feel amorous! A while ago a girl-friend of mine came into the washroom just as I was finishing having a pee (you know what girls are like) he-he...anyhow she walked in and said "Oh my God, that really stinks". Yeah quite embarrasing.. Now my PS has said to me that he really thinks I should also have the tummy tuck with tightening of the muscles etc. as well. That's the way to obtain a flat tummy. He said I could apply for Medi-Care for pre-approved financing. I did get approved for Medi-Care, but what I don't get is that on top of what OHIP would cover for Panniculectomy I still would have to pay about another $9,000.00 out of pocket. Another PS said that in order to even see him I would have to agree to tummy-tuck with same out-of pocket $9,000.00. This is telling me that cost of complete surgery is about $20,000.00 as Panni is about $11,000.00 (which OHIP will pay if approved) from what I've read. These are Canadian $$$'s but I don't understand why it would be so much $$$. Any input ??

I'm curious too about the extra money. If the panniculectomy is covered by insurance. What is the approximate cost of doing the tummy tuck out of pocket?
April 8, 2017
As mentioned he told me $9000.00 out of pocket. I still have not heard back about approval, but if I am I will ask about the cost when I next see him. I saw him on Feb. 13th. and he said he would know in 4-6 weeks, however it will be 8 weeks on Monday. The wait is driving me nuts!!!

I had a mommy makeover with full tummy tuck but, ps did not feel it was necessary to do muscle repair since I did not have children. I lost 85 pounds naturally & know I needed muscle repair (MR). I should have insisted on MR but, didn't want to micro manage the surgery.
I don't want you to have to feel like I did & wish someone would have @ least have given me this information. I would have switched to another surgeon if I knew I would have had better results with MR.
Wishing you the best & a great recovery.
I believe I would have a smaller waist with a flat stomach. I look great but, results would have been fantastic.
