I have been bothered by my lower eyebags for years. Last year, I looked into getting filler under my eyes, but didn't like the idea of needing to have it re-done regularly and incurring a risk each time. And within the last year or so, I started noticing my upper eyelids were sagging, causing hooding. So I started researching upper and lower blepharoplasty. After reading tons of reviews on this site, as well as other sites, I decided that I wanted to see a plastic surgeon with a specialty in eyelid surgery. (I felt that an ophthalmologist - at least the ones in Toronto - didn't have the artistry needed, and most plastic surgeons didn't have the expertise to perform surgery in the delicate eye area.) I found exactly the surgeon I was searching for in Dr. Derek Ford, who did a year-long fellowship in the US in blepharoplasty. Dr. Ford was the only plastic surgeon I consulted, and I brought along my physician husband to help with questions as well as give me his opinion of Dr. Ford after the consult. Dr. Ford was very pleasant, thoughtful in his responses to my list of questions, and really took his time with us, but I never felt pressured to make a decision. Prior to my appointment, while we waited in the waiting room, he even came out to apologize that he was running late. My husband was impressed with his professionalism, demeanor and answers to our questions, and told me after our appointment that if I really want to have this surgery, Dr. Ford was the right plastic surgeon to do it. I booked my blepharoplasty (both upper and lower) for mid-May and while I was nervous leading up to the surgery date, I had no hesitation that I had chosen the right surgeon for the job. The first few days following surgery were the most difficult - but only when I looked in the mirror! The pain factor was pretty minimal and although I had to sleep upright, I really had very little discomfort. I followed Dr. Ford's post-surgery instructions to the letter, and spent much of my days listening to audio books so I could keep cold compresses on my swollen eyes. My stitches were removed on Day 7, and although Dr. Ford was very gentle, I would say that the stitch removal hurt more than the actual surgery! I am now two months post-surgery, and could not be happier with the results. My husband (who wasn't sure I should have the surgery in the first place) admits that I look refreshed and beautiful - like myself but 15 years younger. I am thrilled every time I look in the mirror, and doing eye makeup is a dream. I love my eyes now! Thank you so much, Dr. Ford!
