Terrible Botched Revision Rhinoplasty with Dr. Andrew S. Frankel

Hi everyone and happy 2025 ! I’ve decided that I’m tired of horrible doctors getting away with their horrible practices so I will be showcasing such a doctor today with an extensive review of my experience and the direct results of surgery I had with this man. I feel like I don’t even need to really write a review about it since the pictures you’ll see will demonstrate everything clearly but I do so love writing. Apologies for the essay but I like to be thorough and I do have all my receipts.

Backstory: I came to Dr. Andrew S. Frankel of Beverly Hills for a second revision rhinoplasty (3rd surgery at that point) because my nose tip had become more upturned after my previous revision surgery with another doctor in Texas. When I first came to Dr. Frankel, I had a lot of elasticity in my nasal skin and restoring projection was key to my nose looking normal again. We were both very optimistic about what could be achieved given the elasticity I had at the time. He assured me he could restore my projection using autologous rib grafting and we looked at simulations that showed this. He also suggested a chin implant with some liposuction since my chin was slightly recessed and said it would balance out my features. I said sure, why not! Whelp, as you already know that all turned south and it all got ugly. Very ugly.

Over the course of three years, I had three surgeries with Dr. Frankel. My first rhinoplasty surgery with him resulted in a pollybeak deformity which came as quite a shock as I’ve never had a droopy or hooked nose my entire life. While I had skin elasticity going into surgery, instead of projecting my nose he used it instead to drag my tip down to my upper lip resulting in this ugly, hooked nose. It was absolutely hideous and completely changed my entire look and in some ways my ethnicity. That along with a bulky chin implant, he honestly gave me the ugliest face I’ve ever had in my life. My face became super masculine, harsh, and my natural aesthetic was completely lost. Everyone thought I looked completely different and not in a good way. It was completely mortifying and humiliating to face my family, friends, and colleagues for an entire year and I hid from everyone as much as I could. Everyone tried to be kind but didn’t have the heart to tell me to my face what a terrible mistake I had made. After removal of the chin implant 6 months later at my own insistence, the effects of it still left me with a wider and less feminine chin as the capsule was left behind and the muscle was not resuspended properly as it should have been when he removed it. The implant actually cracked in half when he took it out showing just how strong the scar tissue had developed around it. That’s not normal, the implant should have been easily pulled out but Dr. Frankel acted like nothing was amiss. Wrong, a lot was amiss. To this day when I smile not only is my chin permanent bulkier but I get the “orange peel” pebbling effect with dents which was not there previously. Permanent chin damage now so thank you doctor for that!

Remember how I mentioned in my consultation with him protection was the primary goal we discussed? Under his hands, projection was never restored (it was made worse) and even after the second revision done with him to desperately fix the hook nose he gave that I couldn’t live with any longer, I still had an under-projected nose and my nose was flatter than before. My nostrils were also more pinched AND crooked plus my breathing did not improve it actually became worse. I was unable to breathe through my nose while exercising which became dangerous for me during higher intensity workouts which I try to do regularly.

Also one of the things that sticks out with my conversation with Dr. Frankel in my last followup in-person visit with him after my final surgery with him is that he insisted he (OR ANYONE ELSE) couldn’t give me more projection because my skin envelope was so tight. Well, that was a big ole lie right there. Two years following the disaster that is my experience with Dr. Frankel, I had a successful revision with another surgeon who restored 7mm of projection to my nasal tip as well as improved symmetry and functionality. Basically, he fixed everything Dr. Frankel said he could not fix and gave me a nose again. If Dr. Frankel did not have the talent to restore my projection, he should have turned me away instead of having me go through 2 unsuccessful surgeries with him that drained me of my savings. Completely unethical and disgusting to sit there and lie to my face like that. I’m so tired of doctors pulling this. Just because YOU couldn’t do it, doesn’t mean a more talented doctor couldn’t.

Another issue I have is that with my rib extraction in 2016 with Dr. Frankel the incision line / scar is 3x longer than what it should have been. I’ve repeatedly seen online that rib incision lines should be around 2cm, around 3cm if extracted from the 7th rib, and the one I have is OVER 5cm long. The incision from my successful revision is only 1cm. Again, I don’t understand why mine with Dr. Frankel was so much longer and I’ve literally had people ask me when I’m wearing a bikini if I had breast lift work done because the scar is so long and visible. Another humiliating keepsake from Dr. Frankel I get to have the rest of my life.

And another thing I’d like to point out — both times I had my surgeries, both went beyond the quoted times by a couple of hours and I was forced to pay another 2-3k EACH time for both the operating room fees (which helped line his pocket even more) and general anesthesia fees! His practice is the only one so far that has ever pulled this stunt on me. Completely shady to say the least and always makes me wonder what was going on inside that OR that both surgeries took SO much longer to justify thousands more in payment. They always insisted that Dr. Frankel is the only one performing anything during the surgeries but with the horrible incision site and the gross underestimation of time needed, it makes me wonder about all those Fellowship “observers” I had to sign off on. I feel sick just thinking about it. I am pretty sure both of my surgeries took 6 hours to perform… what a waste.

Stating in the most rational way possible without any emotion, Dr. Frankel did not resolve any of my issues in an aesthetic OR functional sense. I asked for a refund for all of Dr. Andrew S. Frankel’s surgical services performed on me. The snarky response I received (passed along from his office) was along the lines of he spent so much “time and energy on my case” he would not refund me a single cent and “sorry if that makes you mad!” Well sorry, I don’t get mad but I do get even. If you get to keep all $45,000 I paid you for me to have results that UGLY that took another surgeon one go to fix then I get to showcase what a terrible job you did on me for the entire internet to witness. Fair is fair! I’ve seen other botched patients of his requesting refunds and not receive a dime back either so let this be a warning to anyone looking to this doctor to save them. Even if he does a horrible job, he will not reimburse you a single cent. Don’t get mad!

That’s enough writing. Enjoy the photos! I especially enjoyed putting together the comparison compilations showing how much better my projection was made by someone else when Dr. Frankel said it wasn’t possible.
