Explant with Breast Lift

WORTH IT
I grew up with asymmetrical breasts. My right being a large C/small D cup and deemed ‘tubular’ in appearance (dropped and sagging). My left breast was classed an A size and considered ‘immature’ in development with limited breast tissue. As a result, I had breast surgery in 2007 to correct the asymmetry which involved a reduction and lift of my larger right breast (lollipop style) and 200cc Nagar textured silicone implants added sub-muscular to both breasts. I have lived with breast implants for ten and a half years and always had mixed feelings about having foreign objects inside my body. After two children my breast appearance had changed again, leaving me with an asymmetrical appearance once again and the implant sitting high on my chest. I also had some aching and swelling from time to time. Furthermore, I had a number of unexpected health complaints that had developed over the years included endometriosis, gum inflammation and dental issues, iron deficiency, inflammatory issues with my hips, intolerances and all-day headaches. I also play a lot of sport and was concerned about implant rupture. Finally, I didn’t want the long-term commitment and management of having breast implant any longer. All these factors contributed to my overall decision-making process when deciding to have explant and breast lift surgery.
I conducted extensive research into the best practice procedure of implant removal (En-Bloc) and the best surgeon to perform this procedure. Dr Ellis Choy was recommended to me by a number of women who had had similar surgery. I contacted each of these ladies to gain their insights and each of them spoke extremely highly of his professionalism and expertise. Dr Choy is realistic, honest and professional in his approach, as is his support team at his consulting room in Northbridge. Furthermore, the Anaesthetist (Dr Jason Koh) was also extremely helpful in answering any pre-operation questions I had. I felt comfortable and confident in my surgical team and this really helped me stay focused and positive about the surgery.
On the day of the operation, I arrived at Castlecrag Hospital by 6:30am and was on my way to the operating theatre by 7:45am. At 11:40am Dr Choy was on the phone to my husband to advise that the surgery had gone well, and I was in recovery. I continued to be well looked after by the staff at the hospital who made my one-night stay very pleasant. Dr Choy also took the time visit me later in that day to see how I was recovering and to let me know that a full En-Bloc explant had been successfully achieved as well as the breast lift component of the surgery.
It is early days in regard to my post-operative recovery, but I physically and mentally feel extremely pleased with the decision I made to have the surgery. My breasts are smaller in size, but they are symmetrical and sit naturally on my chest. It also feels great to have only my natural breast tissue once again. I have some scaring which I was prepared for and I’m confident this will reduce over time as my body heals and with scar treatments that I will perform as directed by Dr Choy and his team.
