So after struggling with moderate to severe acne since I was 13, my doctor finally decided to put me on accutane. I have tried everything. EVERYTHING. Nothing has ever worked. My self esteem is basically non-existent. I refuse to leave the house without makeup on (I haven't gone out without makeup in over 7 years). I'm so nervous, but really excited at the same time. I can't wait to see results and hopefully have clear skin for the first time in my life! I will update every now and again, but here are my before photos, some taken today and some taken a few weeks ago. Note: I have been crying because I'm so nervous, so sorry for the puffy eyes in a few.

Don't be afraid :) Listen to your body. If you feel like it is effecting you in a negative way you can always stop taking it. Also, what dose are you starting at? If you are very scared, start at a low dose for the first month and slowly increase it. I am only on 10mg per day and it has done wonders so far and all I have experienced so far is dry lips and dry skin ( been on it a month). Good luck to you. You will be ok :)

Good luck, The first 2 weeks are the hardest, you and your body have to get use to the medicine. Always talk to your derm, if you notice something different in your body. At least, that's what I do. I'm on my first month at 40 mg per day.

I am so happy for you! I just got put on 40mg a day 11 days ago and I started to see results after day 4. My oil production has decreased although my skin is still substantially oily. The only side effects I have experienced so far are sore knee joints, and dry lips, skin, eyes, and scalp (I had to go get a shampoo and conditioner for it). Very usual symptoms! I can't wait to hear your story down the road. P.S. I am 16 and have about the same amount of acne as you possibly a little bit more.

1 and a half months in update

Hey everyone! So I'm exactly one and a half months in, and my experience has been pretty overwhelming. My first month I was on 40mg's a day. The first thing I noticed was dry lips and hair. My hair has been falling out like crazy!!! :( I'm now taking 1000IU's of biotin every day, so I'm hoping it helps the hair fall. Also my skin is so much less oily! My makeup actually stays on all day, instead of sliding off a few hours in. My bones and muscles are pretty sore, so I've been gaining a bit of weight. But I'm fine with it because my skin is clearing up!! I still have some acne on my chin, but my cheeks and forehead have cleared up so nicely! (Except some scarring, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.). I'm now on 60mg's a day, and I'm now getting some headaches and I'm tired all the time, but like I said the results are worth it. Oh and I'm drinking a ton of water, because I'm thirsty all the time. All. The. Time.
I will update in a few weeks! :)

Your looking good.
No dry eyes as one of your side effects?

Thank you!! :) Dry eyes haven't been so bad, not enough to need eye drops or anything. Sometimes my vision goes blurry though.

My eyes are dry, but my vision is perfect.
I'm on my third month and dry eyes and lips are the most annoying side effect so far... :(
My cumulative dosage so far is 3,200 mg. Whats yours?

Congrats on getting to month 3! Yeah the dry lips are horrible.. Mine are tearing in the corners and I constantly fear being without Aquaphor lol. I'm at 2100mg so far. Hoping to get my dose bumped up next time so I can hopefully be done a little earlier!

I have no idea how I get this far, my acne was not bad, but again it has been with me for 10 years already (longest relationship in my life). I'm also using Aquaphor, I tried Dr. Dan's Cortibalm, and it was working fine, but Aquaphor is much better. My derm increased my dose to 80 mg per day or 80 mg every other day, whatever I feel comfortable with... I think I will be comfortable when I'm done with the treatment :D
