So after struggling with moderate to severe acne since I was 13, my doctor finally decided to put me on accutane. I have tried everything. EVERYTHING. Nothing has ever worked. My self esteem is basically non-existent. I refuse to leave the house without makeup on (I haven't gone out without makeup in over 7 years). I'm so nervous, but really excited at the same time. I can't wait to see results and hopefully have clear skin for the first time in my life! I will update every now and again, but here are my before photos, some taken today and some taken a few weeks ago. Note: I have been crying because I'm so nervous, so sorry for the puffy eyes in a few. Updated on 11 May 2015: Forgot to mention that the dermatologist is starting me on 40mg/day. Updated on 23 Jun 2015: Hey everyone! So I'm exactly one and a half months in, and my experience has been pretty overwhelming. My first month I was on 40mg's a day. The first thing I noticed was dry lips and hair. My hair has been falling out like crazy!!! :( I'm now taking 1000IU's of biotin every day, so I'm hoping it helps the hair fall. Also my skin is so much less oily! My makeup actually stays on all day, instead of sliding off a few hours in. My bones and muscles are pretty sore, so I've been gaining a bit of weight. But I'm fine with it because my skin is clearing up!! I still have some acne on my chin, but my cheeks and forehead have cleared up so nicely! (Except some scarring, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.). I'm now on 60mg's a day, and I'm now getting some headaches and I'm tired all the time, but like I said the results are worth it. Oh and I'm drinking a ton of water, because I'm thirsty all the time. All. The. Time. I will update in a few weeks! :) Updated on 28 Jul 2015: Hey everyone! So I am two weeks into my 3rd month and I have decided to stop taking Accutane.. It's causing me crazy mood swings, from going violently angry to severely depressed. My skin is looking awesome though, and I really wish I didn't have to stop.. It's causing me a lot of stomach discomfort, as well. I'm going to the doctors soon, but even after a few months, my skin is looking better than ever. No regrets! (As you can see from these pictures, I'm extremely mentally worn out..) Updated on 24 Feb 2016: Hey everyone! I figured I would update my review 6 months after stopping Accutane. My skin is way less dry now, it's basically back to being oily. Which isn't really a bad thing. My lips are still constantly chapped. I still have some hyperpigmentation that I hope to sort out with microdermabrasion when I hit the 1 year post-Accutane mark. I started using Eminence Organic Skin Care and it is doing wonders at keeping my skin clear. I still get the random breakout when I eat junk food or I'm stressed out, but it's not even close to what I had before. Anyhow, I am so happy with my results from Accutane, even from just the 3 months that I was on it. Also, I went blonde and my hair had a huge chemical reaction with the lightener (which has NEVER happened - I am a certified hairstylist and I have messed around with my hair many times) and essentially broke off. I have never in my life had my hair so brittle. So watch yourself if you decide to change up your hair, even after being off of it for two months! I am taking biotin every day to try and repair the damage from both Accutane and colouring my hair. Sigh.
