Successful Revision Double Eyelid Surgery!!!!
I had my first cosmetic double eyelid surgery 3 years ago due to the hassle of using eyelid tape and glue. After a successful but temporary fix to my eyelids via the suture method my right eye started to droop due to the loosening of the sutures after 1.5 years. So, the same surgeon made a single stitch to strength the hold of the eyelid. I was happy with this solution but yet again it was only temporary and the eyelid began to droop a year later. This not only inconvenienced makeup application but also made opening of the eyes straining from the excess sagging of the skin. To find a more permanent solution to even my eyes I decided to undergo another double eyelid surgery. Because it was a revision surgery I wanted a more experienced doctor and researched more extensively about the surgery and the surgeon. After reviewing a few doctors across several online platforms I found Doctor Ellis Choy, a board registered plastic and cosmetic surgeon. Due to his experience with Asian features in particular, eyelids I decided to have a consultation. I was overall satisfied with his assessment of my eyes and in-depth explanation of the surgery so I decided to have the surgery 2 months later. A month prior to the surgery we had a consultation again to discuss crease shape and height. This made sure both Doctor Choy and I had the same understanding and expectations of the surgery.
I opted for local anaesthesia as per recommendation by Doctor Choy due to faster post recovery time and also allows him to make sure the surgery is going smoothly which requires me to open and close my eyes throughout the surgery to make sure the eyelid crease is even.
Albeit other patients experiencing only minor discomfort of the injections, due to my previous experience with needles near my eye I was nervous because I knew the intense pain that was associated. Doctor Choy noticed this and injected the anaesthesia very slowly to decrease discomfort and the nurse was also very caring and offered to hold my hand throughout the process. Right after the injections the surgery began immediately. Due to the anaesthesia I felt no pain, only a few tugs here and there but all were very minor and as expected. Doctor Choy also explained what he was doing throughout the course of the whole surgery which was reassuring as you knew exactly what was being done. After the surgery there was a slight stinging sensation along the incision line due to the anaesthesia wearing off but regular icing and analgesia (paracetamol) solves that easily.
The nurse dressed my stitches and advised me of the post-surgery care. For the next 2 weeks I tried to keep my eyes away from water and applied the antibiotic ointment 3-4 times daily along with regular use of cold compress followed by warm compress after the initial swelling goes down (~3-5 days). Because I had substantial swelling I remained using the cold compress until the stitch removal. Because it was a revision surgery. Doctor Choy keeps a close watch by scheduling multiple consultations post-surgery to make sure everything is going accordingly.
I am now around a month into the recovery phase. My eyes appear more ‘open’, even and the crease is much more defined. Although I still have a substantial amount of swelling left, I am happy with my current eyes. This is because of the initial in-depth consultation I was made aware of the increased possibility of recovery time of open incisional double eyelid technique and also because this was my third time under the knife. To create a more enhanced and even double eyelids requires a skilful and experienced surgeon and therefore I highly recommend Doctor Ellis Choy for double eyelid surgery.
