Highly Recommended for Repair of a Septal Perforation
If you’re seeking a septal perforation repair, you’ve found the right doctor! After reading several positive reviews, I decided to make the 100-mile drive to consult with Dr. Undavia about my perforated septum, a condition that requires specialized knowledge and delicate surgery to correct. My two previous consults with doctors had been disappointing and distressing—neither doctor offered me help or hope, and one was also dismissive and belittling, insisting the perforation was self-inflicted and that I should simply avoid touching my nose. He told me a repair would not improve my symptoms. Given this experience, I was very anxious about embarking on this third attempt to find help.
I’m so glad I did! The office staff at NJ ENT were friendly and helpful, making me feel welcomed when scheduling an appointment. They have since proved responsive to calls and texts, answering questions promptly and professionally. At my first visit, Dr. Undavia was approachable, amiable, and respectful, easing my high anxiety almost immediately. Most of all, he really listened to learn my specific concerns, needs, and history (including the Raynaud’s that affects my nose), opening our conversation with, “Tell me about your nose” instead of jumping in to an exam or giving me a canned lecture. This reassured me that he both cared about and understood the full context of my problem, giving me confidence in his recommendations.
Unlike the previous doctors I’d seen (one of whom even advertised septal perforation repair), Dr. Undavia clearly knew how to assess and fix my septum, carefully laying out the surgical repair process. He told me that both the size (about .5 cm) and location of my perforation were preferable for surgery (something no other doctor had indicated), and his straightforward and sociable manner of interaction made him seem like an ally in improving the functioning of my nose. Notably, he wasn’t selling anything—just offering his experience and knowledge to help me make an informed decision. Though I had come seeking surgery, he assured me that I could also leave the perforation as it was (without having to be excessively careful about touching my nose), though he believed surgery would both relieve my symptoms and strengthen my septum to make recurrence highly unlikely. I left that first appointment feeling light—finally free of a daily stress that had plagued me for 2.5 years. It may seem silly, but I had been experiencing recurring nightmares about my perforation. Those stopped after my very first visit with Dr. Undavia. I remember telling him that day that he was my savior… and I meant it!
The surgery itself went remarkably smoothly, and Dr. Undavia was even able to complete it through the nostrils, without opening my nose—a bonus that I had not anticipated. Now a bit over three months post surgery, I can breathe easy, my anxiety about my nose a distant memory. Though my septum will apparently continue to heal (it takes a while for full recovery), my nose already feels much better—less dryness and crusting and no whistling. The perforation is completely closed, and I no longer need to worry each time I sneeze or blow my nose about it becoming worse. If you have a septal perforation, don’t hesitate to seek help from Dr. Undavia. He not only has the skills and expertise to fix it but will make you feel comfortable and secure throughout the process.
