I have struggled with a red face for over 20 years...

I have struggled with a red face for over 20 years. Having a red face has caused me anxiety, embarrassment, social phobia and some emotional distress.

People have insinuated that my red face must be caused from heavy drinking but I rarely drink. People are constantly asking me, "Where did you go on vacation to get that sunburn?" I even had someone give me a brochure on face color. The brochure stated that people perceive someone with a red face as angry and that I might physically hurt them. I was devastated to get this brochure and that was the final straw for me. I made it my mission to try to figure out what was causing my red face.

I started with over the counter products like creams, soaps and cleansers. Nothing worked. I purchased a Clarisonic and ordered Proactiv. Nope, nothing changed. My doctor prescribed me Tetracycline and a low dose of antibiotics. Still I had no changes in my appearance at all. I then saw an ad on TV for Mirvaso. I figured that this has to be the wonder treatment I had been waiting for. So I got a prescription and tried it for a couple months. No changes to my face yet again. The only change I was seeing was to my bank account and all the prescriptions that were not covered by insurance.

I started researching red face on the internet. I went to my doctor and had her test me for Lupus, Lynch Disease, Carcinoid Disease and Celiac Disease. When I tested negative for those diseases, my doctor agreed to send me to see a Dermatologist. When I saw the Dermatologist, she stood back looking at me with her arms crossed and said that I should be tested for Lupus. I advised her that I had been and it was negative. She then told me to invest in really, really good make up and that is all that she could do for me. Needless to say, I left the Dermatologist office in tears.

I did invest in makeup. I put two layers of green foundation on every day, followed up with regular foundation. The redness is diminished but the redness is still noticeable.

I then thought that maybe my red face was due to an allergy of some sort. So I went to see an allergist. The testing was negative, a waste of time and yet another medical bill.

At this point, I was out options, my doctors were out of options and I realized that I just had to accept my red face. I had been so hopeful that someone could find a cure for me however, it was just one let down after another.

About a year later I found Cheryl Hardy at Pacific Dermatology & Cosmetic Center. I had my initial consultation with her in regard to IPL treatment. She showed me before and after pictures of clients with the red face symptoms. We decided to try a sample area on my face. I was hopeful that this treatment might work for me but I had little faith at this point. The IPL treatment was about 10 minutes with little pain. After she was done, I looked in the mirror and the broken blood vessels on my face had disappeared and I could already see a significant reduction in redness. I must admit, I immediately broke down crying because finally something worked. Years and years of trying everything I possibly could and IPL seems to be the answer.
