Experienced Cosmetic Patient- Cellfina Review

First, let me say my review is geared at the Cellfina treatment itself, not Dr. Holden. Dr. Holden has a great bedside manner, is patient, and wants his patients to have the best results possible.

As for the Cellfina treatment, this was by far the most painful cosmetic procedure I’ve had, and I’m no rookie. I started Restalyne injections (without lidocaine) at 27 yrs old, I’ve had a BA, rhinoplasty, chin implant, brow lift, CO2 treatment, CoolSculpt, Sculptura, laser hair removal, brow microblading, and permanent eyeliner.

I’m less than 24 hours out from my procedure and today I’m feeling fine, just sore. However, yesterday was a different story.

The numbing needles used for this procedure hurt like a #$&*@&! I didn’t have any pain killers etc. prior to the procedure. I would recommend asking for some if you are having this treatment.

The Cellfina device itself was painful, but more tolerable than the numbing portion. It does make a noise like an electric meat carver but that didn’t bother me. After the treatment the nurse assisted me with my compression garment. It was difficult to squeeze into due to the dressings. The dressings are applied to catch the oozing coming from the incisions.

I drove myself home from the procedure. If you have cloth seats, or light colored leather put a towel in your car to sit on because you WILL need it. The dressings ooze more when you sit down. No one had mentioned this to me but luckily I have black leather.

Within a couple hours of being home the lidocaine wore off and I was in a fair amount of pain. I did not want to take Advil as it can thin your blood and I didn’t want to increase any bleeding. Luckily I had some prescription strength painkillers left over from a dental procedure. Thank God. My advice to anyone having Cellfina is to insist on getting a script for something to manage the pain the day of the procedure.

I did sleep with ice packs because I’m paranoid about swelling. I believe it helped and it’s the reason I’m not swollen today. The pain today is moderate and feels like really sore muscles. There are a couple areas that are tender to touch which will likely be areas where the worst bruising will appear.

I cannot take off my dressings until tonight. I will update with pictures and further feedback.

The results are not great, I’ve read that the treatment does not work on dark skin, how do you feel now, would you recommend it?

Eh, I feel about the same as I did 3-4 months out. I’m actually fair skinned. I was getting spray tans at the time to camouflage the bruising.

Removed the dressings to shower (which was what nurse told me to do). Some of the dressings stuck to my skin and were tough to remove. And a couple of the incisions began to mildly bleed but nothing major. I’m still sore. Getting in/out of the car, sitting to pee, and initial sitting positions are not fun.
I went ahead and put gauze over the small incisions because I don’t like the idea of my Spanx rubbing on them.
Here are some post shower pics. Will continue to update.

Ok, so my thighs and butt are still very sore. However I’m not taking any aspirin, Advil etc. because they can sometimes contribute to prolonged bruises (at least that’s what I’ve read).

Today I reviewed some of the Cellfina questions in the forum and was shocked at the easy breezy attitude of the various professionals. In fact, several indicated travel would be fine 24 hours post op! Perhaps I’m in the minority but I couldn’t imagine traveling anywhere at this point. It’s more than enough driving a few miles to Walgreens and the grocery store.

I’ve been lucky because I haven’t had much swelling which I credit my Arnica pellets, and compression/Spanx shorts.

Note: the Spanx are painful to pull up and down when going to the bathroom. I discontinued them yesterday and instead bought ace bandages then tightly wrapped each thigh. I’m much more comfortable, and not avoiding going pee.

I spent a lot of time researching ways to heal bruises and am trying various home remedies, including the cayenne pepper\vaseline trick, witch hazel, lavender essential oil, and oral Vitamin K along with oral Vitamin C. Plus continued use of the Arnica Montana 6c pellets.

Will see if any of these tricks can work magic so I can wear shorts since it’s 110 degrees outside.

Stay tuned.....

I think it’s made a very noticeable difference! I’ve been considering it as well. Thanks for the heads up on the specific details of the procedure.
