Finally feeling a sense of happiness

Unfortunately, the results of my surgery were not...

Unfortunately, the results of my surgery were not at all what I desired or expected. Very promptly, not long after my first post surgery follow up, I expressed my concern and dissatisfaction with the outcome. Initially, Dr. Malek agreed that the results were not as expected. But, he advised that I continue to wait and let the breasts settle a bit more. I waited and returned in another 2 months even more unhappy with my breasts. At this time, Dr. Malek said he could go in and redo my breasts (again) and he would do this at a discounted rate. With this news, I was feeling a bit of relief, however when I was given the quote for the redo, I was very disappointed with the discounted rate he was offering.
Prior to surgery, Dr. Malek discussed with me the numerous possible options for surgical procedures that might be necessary for my situation. I was advised that he would make the decision on which procedure was deemed proper during the time of surgery. As a patient, I took Dr. Malek's word that he was doing the right job for my situation. (However, I now question his decision and his abilities.)
Upon my third return visit, I tried to convey to Dr. Malek that I was confident about the possible procedures that he discussed with me, and he did not perform as I expected. At this, Dr. Malek was indignant with me and basically told me that I had the information wrong and that I was confused. He told me that I agreed to an implant replacement and basically that was it. Hmmm. That does not make sense. First of all, how would I even know about the other options? But mostly, why would I choose a mediocre procedure when there were options for an optimum outcome? Also important, why would I pay thousands of dollars for breasts that are low and big and heavy? I am a 45 year old, mother of three. There is no logical reason that I would not choose to have the best result possible. Dr. Malek knows full well that he should have performed another lift (as I have had in the past), performed pocket revision and inserted mesh slings to support the new implants, and chosen smaller implants.
Dr. Malek is offering to "fix" my breasts at half the price of the original procedure. This is not acceptable. Honestly, having to go through another surgery because of his poor choice is not acceptable. Considering the multitude of other factors that go into this; having to be put under anesthesia again, having to endure the down time again, having to pay for a caretaker for my children again, is simply frustrating and disappointing. On top of this, Dr Malek expects me to feel fortunate that he is offering to fix his poor choice in procedures.
Nearly nine months later, I am so frustrated, disappointed, and upset about this experience. Returning to Dr. Malek, to fix his own mistake, does not make logical sense to me.
In the end, I am feeling robbed and left to live with the disappointment of having endured a surgery for breasts that do not make me the least bit happy. They are low, heavy, too big and they have already bottomed out within 9 months of surgery.
I would like to add that this review was not posted hastily. It has taken me months to determine that this is the right thing to do. I sincerely appealed to Dr. Malek a number of times in hopes that he would remedy this situation properly and at a fair price for me. As a result of his lack of concern for me and my situation, I want other potential clients to know about my experiene, so that they can better evaluate this doctor and make an informed decision that best suits their expectations. And for the record, I have had a number of surgical procedures done over the years and I have been perfectly pleased with the results. This procedure has been my singular disappointment.
As another side note, it is worth mentioning that I firstly posted a review on yelp. And since then, sadly, I have received messages from other unhappy and even devastated patients of Dr. Malek's. I find this to be truly sad.

Wow. What a shame. Your situation is exactly the reason I have lived with bad results for years. Some of these surgeons talk the talk but can't or don't walk the walk. I am trying to decide on a revision surgeon, but it's so hard to trust anyone to give me good results. Please keep us posted on what you decide. It was kind of you to share this in order to help other ladies!!

I went to dr Gawley. He is the head of plastic surgery in Scottsdale and he fixed a bad boob job j had done by another doctor. He is amazing, I can't believe how amazing my breasts look now, I went in there with a mess. If I was you I would go see him. His rates aren't bad either.

I am so incredibly sorry. I also wasn't totally happy with the initial results and neither was my doctor. He revised them at no cost. That is what Dr. Malek should have also done.
I completely understand feeling upset with the outcome and I am sorry you don't have a doctor that provided a fair solution.

Katy, I agree that your results are suboptimal and would strongly urge that you file a complaint with the medical board. Given what you've said, he probably already has had several complaint filed against him. I wouldn't hesitate in filing a complaint, as that is the only way to really get anything done. I would also speak to an attorney about the possibility of filing a malpractice lawsuit.

I am so sorry! I too had a bad, botched outcome by a plastic surgeon. I know hiw you feel! My self esteem plummeted! It really messes with your head! I gave to have a revision andbits hard to know who to trust. The only thing you can do is read "real" reviews and see "real" results. You are saving other women from going thru what u went thru by telling your story. Bless you! Wishing u the best. My advice, cut your losses and go to the best and from what I am hearing, seeing and reading, its Ary Krau in Florida.

You have every right to feel disappointed with those results. I agree you should not return to that same surgeon for your revision. Search for a PS who does breast reconstructions.

what bra size were you before surgery? Sometimes when woman chose very large implants for her frame, breasts do bottom out! This is one of the risks that has to be considered when getting implants, but reputable plastic surgeoun would do revision out of charge!

So very unfortunate for you... All you can do is hope many women will read and view your photos. This will hit him in the pocket for sure...you can also post something in the Scottsdale newspaper alerting women to contact you for this Dr's work of art... Do it discreetly in the want ad column. He will then see less patients... Dr Krau in Miami is 1 of the best. His reviews are 5 star. Not 1 negative complaint. His prices are good too.. Hoping you get your breasts redone by an artist.. Good luck and thank you for sharing your story. Gumboangie

I agree with you.. These photos show PROOF of this Dr's poor skills. You definitely paid heavily for your Dr not to accept blame.. It is so unfortunate that as patients of cosmetic surgery that $$$$$$ have to be paid in full way before surgery... It makes these DRS not care what the end results are... So sorry for your ordeal and do hope you have resolution... Gumboangie

Very pleased with Dr. Malek's commitment to do what it takes to make his patient (me) happy.
Dr. Malek has now kindly offered to redo my breasts on terms that I find agreeable. This gesture is proof of his professionalism and his commitment to ensure his patients are happy with the results he produces. That alone makes me feel a huge sense of relief. The relief is in knowing that he has listened to me and it matters to him that I have felt so disappointed and unhappy with the results of my surgery.
Sometimes, doctors cannot understand the grief felt when a patien has paid for a procedure that turns out awful. There are so many feelings associated with this including regret and guilt for spending money, but most especially devastating is the feeling of insecurity and loss of self esteem on a daily basis, every time you see yourself in a mirror or think about the situation. It's your body. You can't avoid it. I would even say that I have felt an incredible sense of depression because of this whole experience.
To be heard and feel compassion from your doctor is not only comforting and validating, but it is incredibly important to your happiness and sense of self.
I will post pictures of the results once I have the surgery.

I am so happy for you that you have that sense of comfort right now and that you have been heard. Good luck with everything and can't wait to see your results!

Well its certainly taken a lot to get him to 'hear' you. It must be more than 10months of living with poor results...Well done on sticking it out and getting the revision you deserve. I just hope he has the skill to do it.
Wouldn't it be great if surgeons had to live with their results even just for a month, if they had to walk around with big heavy unflattering matronly breasts, and be told that they had misunderstood what they were advised, and to just 'give it time'.
I hope it goes well for you and that he is able to give you the smaller perkier younger looking breasts that you originally wanted.

I wouldn't give him a 5 star rating just yet! Wait to see his results.

I know how you feel. This is exactly how I felt when my BA didn't turn out as I had expected. I have my revision schedules for the 25 th. My surgeon never once played the blame game. It's hard because my husband blames me for picking the wrong implants but we rely so heavily on what our doctors tell us are best for our bodies. I hope you get the outcome you are looking for!

Well let's just hope it turns out well. Honestly would he have offered to help if you didn't post a review ?
Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you find support in the community.
