I chose Dr. Sloan as my surgeon for rhinoplasty...

I chose Dr. Sloan as my surgeon for rhinoplasty after a year of just researching various surgeons within reasonable distance to me. It was only a 4 hour drive, so it wasn't too bad, and I chose him because he had excellent reviews. I only wanted someone who was experienced and certified to work on my face because it seems like a huge risk when you can't see the outcome until its over. I chose Dr. Sloan, an out of state surgeon, because the only board certified surgeon in my state who could perform a rhinoplasty looked scary. It didn't feel right. After communicating with Dr. Sloan and his staff through e-mail, I drove up to Arkansas for a consultation with Dr. Sloan and I knew from the consultation that he was the surgeon I trusted.

Dr. Sloan's facilities are very clean and welcoming. The staff are also very friendly. These factors were major contributions in my decision to have the surgery and Dr. Sloan as my surgeon. I had always wanted rhinoplasty because I always hated my nose throughout my life. I hated posing myself to where my nose looks best in photos at all times and always worrying about how my nose looks. To me, my nose seemed like it would be a complicated surgery. It protruded too much from my face and had a bump on the bride. I knew that having rhinoplasty would make me even more confident, happier with my looks, and would improve my overall quality of life. I was very confident regardless, but I knew my confidence would grow even more and I would be happier with a smaller nose.

Dr. Sloan answered all my questions at the consultation, and believe me, I had a lot! Around the time of the consultation, Dr. Sloan sent me some great morphed pictures which looked a lot like what my outcome looked like. I had a lot of things to plan around for the surgery (lodging, post-surgery care help, meals, etc) but the staff were so helpful that I was able to get everything in order with no trouble at all. I loved the anesthesiologist who has been with Dr. Sloan for a long time. He was very caring, funny, and considerate. Everyone made me feel comfortable on the day of my surgery: the staff, the anesthesiologist, and Dr. Sloan. On the day of the surgery I was nervous but excited, and the nurses took very good care of me. The bed I was in for surgery was very comfortable and I had a warm blanket on me when I woke up from surgery. I was worried about falling asleep, and the 3.5 hours of surgery felt like 30 seconds. I was also worried about possible complications because the previous year had been very rough for me. I had split up from a long-term relationship and I was still very much grieving. I was worried that in my grieving and heartache I might not wake up, but I mentally prepared to have this done and was confident in my choices so I had no issues at all. I was very confident and comfortable with the care I as receiving. The nurses were very nice! I woke up not feeling pain, but just some discomfort and I was incredibly sleepy. I didn't really feel much pain at all, but I took my pain medication at each regularly scheduled time for two days. After two days, I didn't need the pain medication anymore. Dr. Sloan did a great job in taping up my nose and I had a small cast over it when I woke up. I had minimal bruising although swelling at the tip of my nose and also swelling under my eyes. The swelling under my eyes increased after two days but then rapidly decreased. This is normal. I took really good care of myself after surgery, but I owe my speedy recovery to the fact that Dr. Sloan is an outstanding surgeon.

Once I got my cast off and saw my nose, I loved it! I do feel more confident. It did swell up a lot within the next two-three weeks. When I got my cast off a week following the surgery, I noticed an infection had developed around the inside of my nose. Dr. Sloan looked this over and prescribed me medication to fix it up. He was also careful to find and cut out a suture that was deep inside of my nose following the surgery. I had no idea it was even there! During the next two months, my breathing also improved and I can breathe way better than before surgery due to my previous S-shaped deviated septum. Sometimes the swelling in my nose would decrease in the weeks following the surgery but mostly stayed very swollen. I was concerned, but I contacted the staff and was able to talk to the nurses who informed me that this was normal for the time-frame. After about 4 weeks, the bones were pretty set but I was still careful in working out and careful to not bump my nose. I did bump my nose accidentally a couple times within the first two months and it swelled up more but did not do significant damage. I understand it can take a full year to see the final shape/outcome of your nose when all the swelling is gone and I look forward to it! I am happy with it right now, so I know I'll be happy with it in the future.

I highly recommend Dr. Sloan as a surgeon. He was patient, addressed all my questions, took very good care to detail and what I wanted in my results. If I ever want any other work done, I will be seeing Dr. Sloan. He is worth the four hour drive! There was not much wait time at all for me. It seemed like every time I went to Dr. Sloans office, I was seen on time with minimal waiting.
