Rhinoplasty at Eight Plastic Surgery (Tipplasty, Osteotomy, and Bulbous Nose Correction) with Dr. Kim Han-jo
After researching and inquiring with several clinics, I scheduled three in-person consultations before ultimately choosing Eight Plastic Surgery with Dr. Kim Han-jo. My main goal was to refine my nose—essentially, my original features but more balanced and proportionate. I wasn’t interested in silicone implants or a high bridge, and I really appreciated that Dr. Kim respected my preferences rather than pushing for reference photos or additional procedures, as some other doctors had.
In the end, I underwent tipplasty using my ear cartilage, osteotomy, and bulbous nose correction :)
Consultation
I initially reached out via WhatsApp, where Yunie was incredibly responsive and supportive throughout the entire process. Our conversation began with an online consultation—I sent in photos of myself, received procedure recommendations, and was provided with an initial quote. I’d eventually meet her in person at the clinic, where she became a great pillar of support, assisting with scheduling, logistics, and post-op care.
The in-person consultation was professional and well-organized. They conducted a CT scan before the consultation. Dr. Kim provided detailed explanations using photos and diagrams to break down each procedure and potential results. He showcased a wide range of outcomes, from subtle, natural refinements to more dramatic transformations, and we both agreed on a result somewhere in the middle. The entire process felt collaborative, as if he was working with me rather than simply dictating what should be done. I initially thought I’d need alar reduction as well, but he advised against it, explaining that refining the tip alone would achieve the balance I wanted. I appreciated his honesty and felt like I was given realistic advice.
The clinic has an on-site anesthesiologist, which was another factor in my decision, as smaller clinics often don’t have this level of support. Another highlight was their fluent English communication which made the entire process much smoother.
Surgery + Recovery
I was definitely nervous as this was my first surgery ever. The facility itself had a corporate hospital feel in a good way—clean, modern, and well-managed. My partner was even allowed to wait in the lobby during the surgery and joined my pre-surgery appointments.
A funny and unexpected part of my experience was actually having a brief conversation with Dr. Kim during the surgery (don’t worry, I didn’t feel a thing!). I knew I’d be under anesthesia/sedation, but I didn’t expect to be aware enough to chat. It was surreal but also oddly comforting!
Post-surgery, I had zero pain, just significant swelling and bruising for the first week. I was able to breathe just fine after the surgery. They gave a pamphlet with post-care instructions along with an eye mask that doubles as an ice pack. You’ll have to take medication 3x a day and apply ointment regularly. The most inconvenient part was not being able to wash my face or hair properly while the bandages were on (I wasn’t prepared for that, and a salon visit would have helped!). On day 3, I went in for a nose + ear cleaning, bandages and stitches came off on day 7, and I had a final check-up before flying home. They also offer deswelling treatment.
Results + Before/After Photos
Even with some swelling left, I can already see the changes and I love them! My nose looks balanced and natural, like something I could have been born with. So far, my friends and family can’t quite pinpoint what’s different about me, which is exactly what I wanted! As of today, you can see that my nose is still slightly crooked and upturned from the swelling. I was told that'll go down during the next few months. My nose also gets numb when I touch it to wash my face, put on a tight top, and whatnot, but that’s normal as well.
Overall, I had a great experience at Eight. If you’re looking for a skilled, experienced surgeon who genuinely listens, I’d recommend Dr. Kim Han-jo.The clinic has a strong track record, the process was transparent, and the results feel tailored :) If you’re on the fence, I’d definitely recommend booking a consultation. His demeanor in person was reassuring, and it truly felt like he had my best interests in mind.
