I'm Happy with My Result

I always think my nose is my biggest flaw in my appearance. Even when I was calm it gave me an angry expression. Sometimes strangers would ask me why I look so angry, some people would take defense. It wouldn't matter if I smile and speak with good manners. I know I look tough, I don’t need a reminder.

My mother and I both have unflattering noses, we wanted to get rhinoplasty. My mother is the one who found Dr. Nihat Kaya, through comments and recommendations from acquaintances. He was genuinely nice to us. First thing he told us was how much he cares about giving people the best for their lives. Since he was an otolaryngologist first he mentioned how important for his patients to breath well was his priority. He took our pictures and edited so we had an idea about before and after operation. Long story short we’re getting rhinoplasty mine is 15 August right after the covid-19 test.

AUGUST 13

We entered the doctor’s office, he was very polite to us and he examined me just like the first time. He told us I have a crooked nose draw C shape and he also added I have a lot of nasal flesh. He took me to the photoshoot again but this time he took it from every angle. Afterwards we went back to his desk, my untouched nose and goal picture was on the screen. I asked the doctor how I would look if my nose looked a bit more pointy, he edited my picture and told me it made me look more masculine I said “Yeah, it didn’t seem like the way I expected.” We decided my fist decision was the best fit for my face and looks feminine.

AUGUST 15 - Operation Day

They came to pick me up at 08:00. I was in the hospital bed while two kind ladies were taking me to the elevator. One of them asked me about my test result, if smoke or drink or wearing any metal or nail polish. She started asking questions about my life and then talked about her brother who is the same age as me. Everyone was talking so kindly it helped me feel a bit better.

I opened my eyes and I couldn’t understand that surgery already happened just like Dr. Nihat Kaya said everything happened in a second to me. First and last thing I saw was Dr. Kaya’s face. He asked how I felt. I told him I was good. I asked him why my throat hurts, he told me it was normal and reminded me to breathe through my nose. He corrected me each time when I breathed through my mouth. I have consciousness but am very sleepy. I slept, woke up and slept again a few times. He said “that’s enough sleep, let's take you up to your room so your family will see you”. I said “okay”. Same two ladies took me back to my room and everyone told me to get well. I thanked them all. Surgery lasted around 5-6 hours including my wake up. Dr. Kaya said it took longer than expected because I have a difficult nose.

Nurses are very sweet, they're giving me my medicine and painkillers. Mom told me that my eyes looked huge and asked me why I look like that. I told her I have no control over my face. I also can’t make any facial expressions as well. It feels like I’m frozen, by the way the room was freezing cold because of the doctor's order to minimize the bruises and swelling.

I felt nauseous, I wanted to throw up but I couldn’t an hour later I started to throw up blood. Nurse told us it’s perfectly normal and we should call them if I throw up a lot. I threw up more and my mom got worried so the nurse gave me something through IV. After throwing up I instantly felt better.

Bruises started to show up slowly under my eyes. My mom keeps changing my ice pack every 20 minutes. My eyes tear up all the time, I have no control over it.

AUGUST 16

Around 10 am Dr. Nihat Kaya showed up, he wanted to check up on me. He told me I looked really well and said “a few hours later bruises and swelling will be more visible so don’t worry it’s normal”. He also informed me I could leave the hospital today. Mom asked about ice packs. He said “it’ll help around %20-30 so you can stop using it”. Ice helped me to deal with my headache so I kept it a few hours longer.

Inside of my mouth is dry and my lips are chapped, my right eyelid is getting swollen but I feel fine.

AUGUST 17

Left side of my face is okay but my right eye is swollen shut, my nose drew a C shape to my right side that’s probably why my right side was affected more.

It’s 16:00 unlike this morning my right eye opened and I can see really well. My eyes tear up way less than yesterday and I bleed way less too. Cold air helps a lot. Swelling goes down to cheeks and jaw slowly it’s 19:30. My eyes tear up less.

AUGUST 18

11:00 I don't tear up nor bleed anymore. My jaw and cheeks feel swollen, my stitches feel tense and dry. My nose itches a lot today, I wish I could scratch it.

20 AUGUST

We went to see Dr. Kaya for my appointment. He told us that the tube is coming out because I sneezed and it's not a tampon, it's for blood won't go in the wrong direction. He first cleaned my wounds and then removed my cast - it hurts a little bit, I still can't smile but I love it, I told him that. He told me it’s normal right now and showed me how to hold my face if I feel I’m about to smile too hard. My nose looks great, will swell more and then it will become normal within months. I can breathe much better, inside is swelling slowly and of course it’s running all the time.

AUGUST 21

For the first time after the surgery I woke up with a normal mouth. I must breathe through my nose. Swelling is leaving slowly, all I can do is drink water and walk. My mom keeps coming to my room to stare at my nose, she keeps saying how amazing I look.
13:00 some of my stitches came off when I wiped my nose. I texted the doctor’s secretary (who also got rhinoplasty) she told me it’s okay, it probably fell off because I’m healing, I shouldn’t touch too much just in case.

AUGUST 23

My breathing and face is getting much better. I don’t look so swell anymore, although it’s still too early to see the final results. I feel amazing, I look amazing. Mirror became my best friend, I can’t stop looking at my reflection, it almost feels narcissistic. Smiling is getting easier, my jaw still hurts a little when I touch.

AUGUST 27

My stitches were finally removed, it took two minutes. My nose is getting smaller each day. Dr. Nihat Kaya told me to drink 3 liters of water and walk 1,5 hours everyday.

SEPTEMBER 29

Today I have an appointment with the doctor at 20:00 and it’s pouring rain right now, everyone who saw me says I look so different now. I do feel different. Dr. Kaya examined me, everything looks perfect.

TLDR: I’m happy and satisfied with my results, I’m looking good and breathing fine. I recommend Dr. Nihat Kaya to everyone. He cares for his patients and does the best for them. I’m thankful for his hard work.
