Never Fully Satisfied

I had my rhinoplasty done by Dr. Broadhurst 2 years ago, and I have never been fully satisfied with the results. In hindsight, there were signs he was not the right surgeon for me, and I take responsibility for overlooking them and proceeding with the surgery anyway.

When I met Dr. Broadhurst, I specifically requested alar reduction (nostril reduction) because I disliked the size of my nostrils. He advised against it, saying too much change could lead to dissatisfaction. It is understandable if alar reduction is not a surgeon’s preference or area of expertise, but what disappointed me was that he told me I did not need it and assured me he would reshape my nostrils in a pleasing way, which I do not believe happened. While he removed my nasal bump, the lower half of my nose remained largely unchanged, leaving me with a smaller nose and disproportionately large-looking nostrils.

We also discussed a supra-tip rotation along with the nostril reshaping, which also didn’t happen. A higher tip gives the nose a more youthful and feminine appearance. Dr. Broadhurst is one of the more expensive surgeons in Brisbane, so it was disappointing not to receive such a common technique.

Dr. Broadhurst pointed out that my nose was too narrow from the front profile and recommended a local nasal graft. This was not a prior concern of mine, but trusting his expertise, I agreed. Now my bridge looks thick and overly pronounced, especially when I smile in photos. I initially hoped it was just swelling but over two years later I know it’s permanent. Widening the bridge again seems more suited for male rhinoplasty and has made my face appear masculine.

I am now seeking a secondary rhinoplasty with another surgeon, and I have felt more listened to and understood compared to my experience with Dr. Broadhurst. On a positive note, my nose functions well and the surgery and recovery was mostly uneventful.
