Sun-par Work and Treatment

It’s taken me 1.5 years to write this review because I couldn’t bring myself to write it until I got the mistake fixed that Dr. Gershenbaum made. It’s been 1.5 years of hell not being able to breathe, only being able to sleep on one side at night because when I sleep on the other I get 0% airflow, wearing a breathing strip every night, and dealing with the lopsided, curved nose I ended up with. I always had a pit in my stomach with Dr. Gershenbaum; it never felt right. But I stuck with it because someone I knew had done their nose with him (come to find out they also have breathing problems and looking at it more closely it’s not well-done).
He is extremely rude to his staff, makes you feel like it’s an honor to be in his presence and was quite rude to me on multiple occasions. Looking back, I wish I took those red flags more seriously but I told myself surgeons have huge egos and it shouldn’t matter if the work is good (NOT true, the surgeon who did my revision is an angel and never made me feel that way. Dr. Oscar Trujillo in NYC).
I never had any issues with breathing, I just wanted a more esthetic nose. However, during my consult he told me I had a deviated septum and could get that fixed. Thinking to myself if I am going under, why not fix it, I agreed to do a septoplasty&rhinoplasty (obviously that adds $). Leading up surgery, his staff was great with communication so it made me at ease in contrast to his dismissiveness. He didnt put packing in my nose, so when I woke up unable to breathe, I assumed it was due to swelling and bruising. weeks passed and I still couldn’t breathe. When I told him this at my follow-up, he was very dismissive saying that is normal and would get better with time. I trusted him. He just told me to use Afrin for congestion to open my airway for 30 days. They only provide temporary relief. After the 30 days, I went back and told him you know what I still can’t breathe. Is this normal? He said yes. I showed him how my left nostril would completely shrivel when I breathed in (it was completely collapsed - I didn’t know this at the time). He said that’s normal. After that visit, I knew something was not right and he was lying to me. Another very weird thing is he never took after photos for me. That tells me he knew what he did was not good work. He also brought me a different patient’s before pictures and chart when trying to explain to me why I got the results I did. It was shocking watching him point to a different person’s photo of their nose trying to explain my results. So I went to see another specialist. Paying even more money out of my pocket. But that’s what it took for him to take me seriously. This time I went to an ENT/plastic surgeon. Immediately he told me my left nostril was collapsed due to a lack of cartilage and that I was missing cartilage on the bridge of my nose which is why my nose was the shape of a C (I will post pictures). He also said my septum was completely mis-shaped, blocking both sides of my nose. I was happy to be validated. Once I called Dr. Gershenbaum’s office with my second opinion and want another follow-up, that’s when he agreed with the other surgeon’s assessment and finally admitted it. He said he would do the revision for me using pig cartilage. At that point, I no longer trusted him so even though it would have been cheaper to do the revision with him, I chose not to. I’m so glad I waited because now I can breathe, my nose looks great and I have a great experience. After leaving that day, nobody every followed up with me, after pictures were never taken, and I never went back. I am posting this so nobody else has a similar experience. If you want to get a nose job, I urge to go to a double board certified ENT/facial plastic surgeon. Photos posted are before and after surgery.
