Traumatic Rhinoplasty Results with Dr. Monica Kieu
I had a rhinoplasty with Dr. Monica Kieu 2.5 years ago in Newport Beach, California. I did not have a positive result from my surgery. Per my photo documentation, it is clear that my result is unpleasant and not what was discussed and agreed on between Monica and I. I was left with triangular nostrils, severe asymmetry, crooked nose and difficulty breathing. This has been a traumatic experience for me as I have not felt comfortable being without a mask to hide my nose..
I have a very large nose to begin with along with thick skin so it was understood that what could be done to my nose under a rhinoplasty is limited. Therefore, I asked for shaving down my hump and a slight narrowing to the front of the nose. My personal goal in getting my rhinoplasty was to obtain a more soft and feminine look to my side and front profiles.
In my personal experience with Monica, we did not discuss alarplasty in my consultation so I'm not sure why she cut my nostrils. We agreed to shaving the bump and slight narrowing to front profile. She gave me an alarplasty and said that the reason why my nostrils became triangular was because I asked her to narrow my nose, I felt as though I was blamed for my triangular scary looking nostrils.
She said that because I asked her to narrow my nose that this was inevitable and the only way to reverse this is if I widen my nose again and undergo another surgery to widen the nose. I am unable to undergo another surgery because at this moment it is very expensive. She also said it’s because of swelling and I had to wait 2 years to see my result. It’s 2.5 years later and it still looks like this so my conclusion is she just performed poorly on my rhinoplasty, in my opinion.
About 1.5 months after my surgery, she started injecting me with steroid shots in the nose to smooth the appearance of the sharp triangle shape but every time I got the injection, the nostril would go back to its pinched shaped about 1-2 weeks after she injected me. I thought it was weird that I had pinches in the nostrils, I remember having cuts at the front of each nostril where the pinch "^" occurs, I asked why there were cuts there but the surgeon denied there being any cuts there. Per my photo documentation, there were cuts, scabs, blood at the pinch location. Additionally, Monica refused to show me front profile pics on the table she said she didn’t take full frontal only side profile. I was so confused why she wouldn’t let me see the on the table photos she only showed me a side one but I wanted to see front face photos but those were not shared with me during my post-operative appointments and I did not understand why she did not let me see my photos. Perhaps there were not any taken during my procedure and if that is the case, that is understandable.
The pinching happened for over the 1 year post-op mark so she offered to inject me with filler but stated that she would only inject me with filler once for free and that if I ever wanted to get more filler to the nostril to smooth out the triangle shape that I would have to pay her the full price of the filler every time I asked for more. I am unable to afford her high price for filler so I have resorted to traveling South to afford the small amounts of filler to slightly reduce the pinched look, however, it always goes back to being pinched and uneven. I personally have been unsuccessful in finding a cosmetic treatment to remove the pinched look so per Monica, I have to undergo another surgery to reverse the pinching however I do not trust going to her for a revision as she left me like this so I need to personally find who can assist me.
It is unfortunate that she has stated this is my nose's fault and my fault for asking that my nose could be narrowed a bit.
Overall, I do not recommend that patients seek her services for rhinoplasty unless the patient's end goal is to have triangular nostrils, pinched nostrils, crooked nose, severe asymmetry, and trouble breathing.
I want to provide this documentation of my results to future patients researching rhinoplasties so they are able to make informed decisions. This is my own personal experience and results of rhinoplasty by Monica Kieu.
