Update after 18 months.
I want to come back and give my final update regarding the surgery Dr Gassner performed 18 months ago when he harvested my ear cartilage to fix a retracted and collapsed nostril. To start with, unfortunately the problem was never fixed. It left me instead with an ugly scar behind the ear half way down my neck from where he needed a skin graft. Se pics formerly posted. Also, inside my ear from where he took the cartilage I am now left with another awful scar which turned into a keloid for which I need regular corticosteroid injections to keep it from growing and itching. The most surprising in this bad experience though, was the fact that Dr Gassner contacted me via email and tried to bribe me so that I would take away this review.
Which of course I never did.
I attach pic of the ugly keloid scar inside my ear. To be honest, I feel as if I was used like some kind of Guinea pig.

Stressful Experience
Dr Gassner had me convinced he could mend my twice previously botched nose with a closed approach in two steps. I underwent the first step last summer. Step1 aiming to bring down and repair a retracted nostril with cartilage from one ear. I was told it would be an easy 45 min surgery with local anesthesia. Step2 would have been reconstruction of the rest of the deformities, and the bad breathing, which would be done 3 months later, a much longer and complicated surgery.
After the step1 surgery I was left with a 3 cm ugly scar on the backside of my ear, a bit down on my neck quite visible when putting hair up. I was not at all prepared for this and never got a clear explanation why so, neither how to take care of the wound post surgery. I could not move my head properly for 2 months. Inside my ear - where there had also been harvesting done - it was messy and blackish and still hurts to this day, now 5 months later. I had to come back to Germany after 10 days (I live in another country) to remove a silicone foil that held my nostril out for transplant material to grow in. It hurt a lot during those two weeks. Specially in my ear.
After a couple of months it was unfortunately obvious the retracted nostril was not brought down. As a previously botched patient, I got very worried after having my ear and neck so messed up and still not the expected result. From where Dr Gassner would take grafts for the next surgery he would not answer. I wrote many concerned emails. I wanted answers to how his technical approach for next surgery would be. Never got them, only that I should ”trust the process and have patience” and that we could Skype 3 weeks (!) before next scheduled surgery. I insisted with my questions since he did not answer them and then eventually he replies and proposes for us not to proceed since I have ”so very many concerns and want detailed information on every step” and insinuates I can´t even handle a ”minor preparatory” surgery. I felt very discarded although at that point I had already started looking for another surgeon.
Do you let builders come in to your house and run amok without you knowing the materials or having an exact plan?
This is my body, I cherish it.
Thinking in hindsight there were some red flags already at the 30 minutes consultation, like him not answering the technical questions and not showing good before and after pictures with nice results of previous patients with similar concerns. I should have listened better to these.
I would not recommend Dr Gassner if you want someone who cares, get questions answered about procedure and someone who does what he claims he can achieve. I would also not recommend him for complex revision rhinoplasties.
