Nothing has changed.
$50
Well, over a year later and nothing has changed. My skin still looks terrible. I still have enlarged pores and fat loss in several areas of my face. I've been trying to find a doctor in the Boise/Nampa area that does TCA cross for the enlarged pores but so far, no luck. Several have recommended lasers, not going to happen.
It's crazy what damaging your face can do to you. I've tried talking to "family", they do not have any empathy. I've ceased contact with them and have no intentions of trying to communicate with them again. I'm uploading a picture of what the left side of my face looks like, the side that I had been applying Retin-A to. It's awful.

I'm not sure how to describe this, but from my experience it made my skin "mushy", waking up in the morning after using Retin-A I started to notice lines on my face - one day my girlfriend accidentally "finger nailed" my forehead and I noticed her finger nail impression wasn't going away, I still have those, and other marks and dents all over my face, including HUGE pores. This was two years ago and life has been a nightmare since, to say it has "diminished" my quality of my life would be an understatement, it has all but ended it. I had great skin prior to all this, but I'm in my late 20's and I was tired of occasional breakouts.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you find support in the community.
I've heard Retin A does have the tendency to thin your skin. I personally never use a prescription strength retiniod, however, do you moisturize morning and night and use sunscreen during the day?
I was, and still do - I usually use Cerave. The damage has been done though, it's too late for me. Now I just try to warn others.
Hi, im so sorry to hear this. I too had a similar experience. I need to ask you, for how long did you use retin-a before you had enough with the effects it brought to your skin? Kind regards
I'm sorry I didn't see your comment sooner, for me it was about a month, maybe two before I started noticing the effects.
Hmmm... my skin took on this sort of appearance from botched laser. It took a few years to get better but I used Retin-a, Osmosis Skincare, Matrixyl, HA Serum, Argireline and my skin is pretty smooth again now except for the scarring caused by the actual laser.
Thanks for sharing your experience, sorry to hear about the laser. I've heard a lot of negative things about them, specially ablative. I did buy some Osmosis stuff a while back but I was worried about making things worse. I'll look into these again though.
Night Osmosis Skincare products are fantastic! I sound like a shill but I'm not lol I wish I'd found them prior to the laser as they probably would have prevented the issues that the laser was recommended to me for in the first place.
I would just start with the Osmosis products slowly while your skin adjusts. Read reviews on them. You will notice great things happening to your skin.
When Osmosis first launched Stemfactor I purchased that too and added it to the mix. But I think the first few batches of this product still needed some tweaking as I went through the "uglies" from it, but once I got past that my skin loved the product and then the revised versions were even better.
Just be gentle with your skin, less is always more. I think we can get carried away and think trying more products and slathering more of them on will bring greater results, but in reality, I've found the opposite to be true.
All the best :) x

I haven't tried exfoliation, I've been too worried about putting anything harsh on my skin, I swear this kind of thing is enough to give people PTSD, I'm very aware of my skin now.
Things I have tried are: Honey, CeraVe, some weird skin cell serum, vitamin c very briefly but I was worried that it would make things worse, supplements (vitamins, collagen, fish oil), MSM, hyaluronic acid, various diet changes, I'm sure there is more but that's about as far as my memory is allowing me right now. Next I'll be trying bone broth since it is high in collagen, etc.
I haven't tried any medical treatments, i'm apprehensive and worried about making things worse (sometimes I wonder if that's even possible lol), I've heard TCA cross can work but that too has inherent risks and can expand the pores rather than shinking them, feels like we're playing Russian Roulette with our skin.
I know it's hard and I'm one to talk but try not to stress too much, look up Awalk on here - She had a laser treatment and had similar damage and the grief eventually got the best of her, very sad. Sometimes I feel like I too will succumb to this, the stress is killer.
I think you're right to give it a year before you decide to do anything drastic, it will at least give your skin time to heal, Accutane users are recommended post treatment before proceeding with any harsh treatments. Someone mentioned that our skin barriers were damaged and we should look up how to repair that and the acid mantle, that sounds like good advice, though I'm not sure if it is possible to restore our skin/pores to their previous state it is worth looking into.
I think pores are similar to scars in that your skin thinks it is healed and doesn't worry about the asthetic appearance, without creating a wound (laser, acid, needling, etc.) and creating localized damage the skin will not repair itself because it does not view it as an injury.
Good luck
I'm just glad we can support each other through this because it's literally taking over my life and all I think about. This craziness caused me to end a 4 year relationship. Right now I'm trying avocado, olive oil, and Manuka honey. I also use Every Lipid Serum from skin actives. Let's keep in touch and see if we can help each other.
And to make matters worse I contacted the author of the site that I posted above and told her what has happened to my skin. She also sells products to repair the acid mantle and help sensitive skin. I'll copy and paste her reply...
"It is hard to come back from retin A overdose i have seen
cases of peeling going on for years. I can't honestly
say any of my products would repair the damage done."
Interesting because my derm said the opposite and gave me a hydrocortisone cream which hasn't helped at all.
I'm surprised that a retinol did this to you. I really feel for you. I'll continue to research and let you know if I come up with a solution!
But you're right in a way...it is easier to be alone. I don't have to fight about going out anymore or come up with stupid excuses. Most of which were true...I didn't feel good. Just the thought of people seeing me made me feel nauseous. I still get that anxiety on a daily basis. I read a huge thread (username Awalk) years back where her skin was so damaged from laser that she gave up on life. That beautiful woman ended up dying very young from an aneurysm if I remember correctly. I don't want us to be overcome by this but geez it's a bit consuming for our reflection to change over night.
Did Samantha from nakedchemist write you back yet?
The spray is expensive, but the wash is about $14. The whole idea behind the product is to restore your skin's natural no one by washing with a very gentle foam that does not disrupt the skin's barrier and then misting with live "good" bacteria. The company has been doing research that suggests we have been using products that strip the skin of its natural properties killing good and bad bacteria alike. I used it about a month and my face felt softer and pigment looked better, however I started breaking out some which could have just been from changing my hormone replacement therapy from patch to cream. Might be worth a shot if you just need to let your skin heal for a while. Not everything works for everyone and I would encourage you to read the directions on their website. You can also buy their stuff in Amazon sometimes. They think there maybe a correlation between the overuse of antibiotics and acids and the rise of adult acne.
Into it! I just started a new regimine and I don't want to change it up once again but I love any and all helpful tips given so thank you very much!
