Feel Like You're His ONLY Patient Every Single Time
Where do I begin...my experience with Dr. Krochmal and his entire team has been amazing so far. I'm 4 weeks post-op: liposuction to lower back, stomach, and mons pubis region, finished with abdomen muscle plication and removal of excess skin on stomach (the "tummy tuck" portion). Even though the swelling last for months, I'm already THRILLED with my results :).
Starting with my consult, I immediately felt at ease with Dr. K. One of the things he initially said, that stuck out to me, is that it's a "team effort" - meaning the patient and him need to work together to achieve positive results. He really listens and customizes the procedure based on your body and your desired outcome. He's forthright and genuinely cares - when I showed him a quote from another doctor, he said, I know him, he's a fantastic doctor, too, and I have no doubt if you go with him and not me, you'll still be in great hands. I LOVED that, as it proved to me that he really just wants what's best for the patient.
I had a pre-op appointment 2 weeks prior to the surgery, where he took photos and explained on a screen exactly what he'd be doing and why. We agreed on where the scar would be optimally placed, as well. The nurse explained to me pre-op instructions (how to prepare, what to eat, etc., as well as post-op instructions), and gave me all of my prescriptions to be filled ahead of time.
The day of the surgery was simple - I arrived, met with the nurse and got an IV, and then Dr. K came in, took a look at my body, made some markings, and showed me where he'd hide my scar (using the underwear I was wearing). I also met the anesthesiologist, which was reassuring. About 20 seconds after I laid down, I was out. Next thing I knew, I woke up in the hospital bed and the nurse helped get me comfortable, gave me water, and started me on the necessary pain meds.
My favorite part about my experience with Dr. K is that he is INVOLVED - meaning, he wants to see his patients regularly, to stay on top of their recovery and make sure everything looks right as the healing process continues. It's not just a surgery-and-dash; I saw him the morning after my surgery (I'd stayed the night), then the following day he had me come back. 3 days later, I went back in again. And then weekly for the following 3 weeks. Now that I'm at 4 weeks post op, I won't go back for another month. But I know that I can reach out to Dr. K and his team at any point with questions. In fact, at one point, about a week after surgery, I had some stinging at one of my drain sites, so I made an appointment. An hour or so later, Dr. K called me directly from his cell phone to talk through it, saying he didn't want me to drive all the way out there if it was just a "get through the pain" type of thing, which it was. He had me text him photos of the drain site, and quickly texted me back saying all looked normal and fine. He saved me a 45 minute uncomfortable car ride by being accessible and open to important patient communication.
HIGHLY recommend Dr. K, if you want to feel like you're the only patient every single time you see your doctor. He cares about the outcome, both short and long-term, and his expertise is obvious from his education and multiple boards and certifications he's on/received.
