WORTH IT
I finally let my Neurologist talk me into Botox. I'm hopeful!

My history:

* 41 years old
* Suffered with migraines since 2002
* Have tried everything (preventative) under the sun
* Relpax is my triptan drug of choice
* Most of my migraines are hormonally related (with the exception of some triggers that I avoid now)

I had my first session of Botox on November 15th. It's been just a tad over two weeks. The Botox has taken full effect (cosmetic wise) as you can see from my picture. I had injections where the 11 lines are, my forehead, behind the ears, back of my head, and tops of my shoulders (the standard sites).

Few things to note so far two weeks in:

* So far I have not seen an increase OR decrease in my migraines
* I have had weird visual disturbances in the right eye (my migraines are always left sided)
* I've had some wicked 'normal' headaches these past couple weeks
* I cannot (and I mean CANNOT) move my eyebrows up or down
* At first my eye lids looked almond shape because of the Botox pushing down, but it's ok now
* My shoulders are very sore after I life something (I think this is due to the muscles that are NOT frozen working overtime)

I was told that when you keep receiving Botox injections, that 'frozen' face look will eventually not happen anymore. I hated it because for awhile there, my eyes felt super heavy!

Side effects I THINK I may have:

* I have noticed that my hair is thinning on top of my head and temple areas
* I have also noticed that I have broken out considerably on my chin

I would love to hear from anyone if they experienced the same because when I research side effects, those two are not part of the list. However, I know other women have mentioned it on here, etc.

I will update after the second session which will be in February I believe (every 90 days).

:)

How are you doing? Have you noticed any change in your migraines?

I have been doing Botox with my neurologist for over a year now to manage my chronic migraines. This has been the biggest game changer for me. I have seen a dramatic decrease in the number and frequency of my migraines since starting, though I still take my Topamax daily as my preventative and have my Imitrex shot and Treximet pills to take when I get a migraine. If you suffer from chronic migraines and are considering Botox, I definitely suggest talking to your neurologist.

I wished Topamax worked for me! I had to stop it after a few weeks of use. I had horrible mood swings, delusions, and extreme anger towards everyone. I'm so glad the Botox is working for you!!

Sorry it didn't work for you. I've tried all the daily medications and it's been the best for me.

I remember not having an appetite though. That was a great thing :)

I am on my second course of botox which i got for both cosmetic and added bonus of alleviating my migraines. The first treatment i honestly thought "what have i done" due to the heaviness and the fight my muscles were having! My eyes were very heavy but i do have rather large hoods and developed dry eye and a twitch in one for aboit 6 weeks. This has subsided and no such issues following my second treatment. Tension associated with either headache or migraine has reduced a lot and im happy i persevered. Good luck with your second treatment x

I actually got Botox for cosmetic purposes in December and pleasant surprise, it ended up getting rid of my migraines (I'm 26, have had them chronically for the last seven years or so) which was awesome. It started wearing off at the beginning of this month so I just went back today for another round. Sadly some of the writers of other stories I've read here haven't been so lucky. I only had it on my forehead and in between my eyes though, not all over my scalp and neck.

I'm a 57 year old female who continually experiences the Spock effect after the migraine injections-(eyebrows go lie toward the eyes and up at the sides with 3 new wrinkles above each bow (total
Of 6). Makes me look mad and older and I must wear bangs to cover the wrinkles. Also horrible chin acne ever since Botox injections . Fewer migraines, but episodes of neck spasms continuing.....

Im reading to get all the info I can because Im considering botox. But I saw you guys talking about Topamax, and I think its so strange that all I've heard is how well it works for headaches and how people lose so much weight because they just cant eat! Ive been on it for 7yrs now for seizures. Before my headaches were even an issue. Works great for them! But never has it remotely helped my headaches or effected me eating

Halfway Through First Treatment

Alright, so the first treatment is half over (I will be getting the Botox injections every 90 days).

Few Things:

* The heaviness on my lids and eyes themselves has subsided a bit. It's better!

* I still can't really lift my eyebrows UP though.

* In looking at my app that tracks migraines, the number I normally receive in a month has actually gone down.

* That horrible pain in my neck has also subsided. I believe I was making it worse with my workouts and shoulder exercises. The musle that was injected froze, and the surrounding muscles worked overtime!

My next Neuro appt is this week. Anxious to hear what he says.

Happy New Year!

As much as it sucks, like anything else it takes time for many symptoms to start to show marked improvement. Glad you'll be talking to your neuro about your concerns-they're certainly legit. Good luck!

I’ve been getting Botox for more than 2 years now, I actually needed 2 vials instead of 1 as the muscles in the back of my head and neck are spastic all the time. Botox works the best for me thus far. I use Fioricet for break through headaches. I’m 34 by the way. You won’t be able to move your forehead, it’s just part of the deal. However if your eyes are droopy the doctor could be injecting the Botox too low. It really is about placement of injections. If the doctor goes too far and accidently hits your periosteum it can give you a hell of a headache. I’ve had that happen.

Just Had My Second Treatment

So it's been 24 hours since I had my second treatment.

After the first 90 days:

* In the past month, I have only had 2 migraines! That's INSANE! So the Botox is working!
* My hair has gotten better; it's not as thin
* For 90 days I had no other side effects

After the second treatment:

* 24 hours after the second treatment, I woke up with a swollen lower left cheek. It doesn't hurt. I don't get it. I have a question on here to the doctors. Waiting for it to go live. I included a picture. I don't have any pain, so it's not a tooth issue or something. So weird.

I guess sometimes if you're allergic to something, it may take a few times for it to show. Ugh.

I'm hopeful it's nothing so I can continue these treatments because it's AMAZING to not get as many migraines!
