3 weeks post-op
Doing well— things are all healing beautifully and I’m really pleased with the results so far. Swelling has gone down a ton but is still present in the lower abdomen especially at night.
Really seeing the difference today
Okay, I did some comparisons in the same undies as my before picture, and I cried. I’m so so happy with how everything is turning out! As you’ll see in my caption, I did end up weighing and as of today I’m up NINE pounds from the day of surgery and about 3.5” in my hips. Yesterday I was up almost 11 pounds and 4” in the hips, so I guess progress is being made. All of the swell hell went to belly, hips, and thighs.
Adding after photos so far, and overall update
I haven’t been current with posting photos so all captions will say what day post-op they were taken.
Swelling is going down so I’m noticing my compression garments are looser and leaving creases on my skin that I’m a little concerned about, so may call my PS office about that when they open tomorrow.
My mental state is improving too though I’m sure it will continue to be a bit of a roller coaster. I had much more energy yesterday and used it to get out of the house and do a quick grocery shop and went to visit my dad. It felt pretty comfortable driving for the first time and even got a cheeky iced green tea from the Starbucks drive thru, so in general the day felt much more normal. I did learn that my compression sleeves are not really breathable in the armpit region in the slightest... TMI but brachioplasty in the summer in the desert is no joke. I was inside for hours in the AC after being outside and still felt damp in the underarm region and of course deodorant is a no go still, so may also need to research an alternative garment.
Chest and arms are a little more tender today so maybe I overdid it a bit yesterday, and therefore will be laying low today. I’ll be trying to get back on track with my nutrition which honestly has not been perfect since surgery. I’ve stayed pretty low sodium and higher protein most days but I have been going over my calorie goals for my current level of activity... lots of liquid calories as I’m drinking a ton of pineapple juice for inflammation, but going to shift to eating more of the actual fruit instead of the juice. I haven’t weighed since the morning of surgery and do not plan to until I feel the swelling has gone down more significantly, but I will continue tracking nutrition diligently.
