I'm new to this blog thing...but had to share.
I had rib graft revision rhino w Dr. Davis this week...night and day difference from my last surgery, which left structural and functional issues (left by Dr. DeLuca, upstate NY, several yrs ago). The NY doctor did so many things wrong, Dr. Davis took over 6 hrs for surgery, orig thought to be 4.5 hrs. I'll write a more detailed experience later with before/after photos...but he is a very modest, yet confident surgeon with complex revisions. He showed me a number of rib patients and their outcomes, discussed everything involved with my surgery, unbelievable bedside manner and a true professional throughout. Having been in the healthcare profession for past 17 yrs, I've learned to discern the quality of the physician and their work, and Davis did not disappoint. Well worth the money, time and boring recovery so far.
Swelling and bruising was minimal considering...ice, ice, ice...rest, rest, rest...and elevation. Profile and front views dramatically different. Breathing improved, but with some internal swelling/congestion, I don't yet have full benefit. Pain very well managed. No issues with rib donor site, healing well. A little redness at tip, but I recall that with last surgery and will prob go away soon. Biggest issue is being in a hotel room for all these days waiting for my post-op is starting to drive me nuts. Post-op instructions very clear and he even answered texted questions. Very responsive...felt like he was family caring for me.
Again, just a quick note...keep an eye out for my pre/post photos and more details. BTW, when I went in for my pre-op, he had a pretty woman from CA in his office for revision post-op...she said she traveled all over the country seeing docs and landed with Davis, which was a reassuring sign. She looked great.
I would highly recommend Dr. D based upon my experience and outcome so far...very knowledgable and has vast and successful experience with revision rhino. Unless my nose rips off when the splint comes off in post-op next week, I'll continue to believe he is a very gifted surgeon. This surgery is effects the second most noticed feature of your face (eyes #1) and for many of us, it is a costly and very sensitive topic. Do your homework on top surgeons, compare their skill vs what you need and consult to find the right one. I'm hoping my review will help you...it's a challenging environment to get detailed reviews on surgeons you can trust are real.
More to come soon. Photos to follow.
Feel free to send questions in meantime if it'll help you.

congrats and quick recovery Jagr10. I have booked a surgery with him for December and I'm glad when reading such reviews. What do you for your swelling ? Did you take anything prior the surgery ?

I meant "What do you do for your swelling ?"

Nothing special...just followed his pre-op instructions, which he gave me at consultation...I've followed those instructions pretty much on point. He was very engaged with the hospital to make sure ice was continual after surgery...when my ice melted, I was 'ringing the bell' for more...then I picked up continual icing the next day forward. By day 3-4 I tried to get some sleep at night so I iced less, which didn't cause any adverse effects. Also, constant rest and whenever I laid down, I was elevated. Haven't done anything strenuous, which is killing me...I usually run 3x week for 4-5 mi and some other weight training. That'll stop for a while. My orig nose injury was sports related, and sports have cost me broken bones, stitches, etc over the years. I did purchase Arnica 30x tablets and gel, but didn't start taking those until later in day 2 of recovery...I don't think those made much more of a difference then the ice, elevation and rest already did.

What exactly did you do pre-op, as he didn't mention anything? I know some ppl take Arnica 30c 10 days pre-op and then continue for 2 weeks post-op. I know he pretty much wants to do a lot of icing and keep the head elevated all the time...- these are basically his instructions and clean the hands with antibacterial soap, sanitizer, which is fine to kill the germs :)

Hi keery - I posted a response above, sorry abt that...meant to reply here. I'm a guy who generally doesn't share much and never write about it, so I'm a newbie ;-)

I didn't take anything out of the ordinary, except my normal probiotics, multivitamins and fish oil...the vitamins and fish oil stopped about 1 week prior and took a probiotic 1-2x a day. Probiotics will def come in handy post-op to combat the effects of the antibiotic. But I've been taking probiotics for years...too many benefits to not. While I did purchase the Arnica products, I didn't start before surgery...I guess some ppl experienced some benefit by starting just before. I don't bruise easily generally and am fairly healthy so I didn't feel I needed it. I'm using here and there now, but effect has been minimal for me. The Pretty Woman I was mentioning in my orig post did have some bruising/swelling at the time of her post-op appt, so effects can certainly differ. She's here on RS having a recent good experience w Dr. D too. She details a lot about her experience. Worth checking out.
