Mini Facelift Mistake
AlihaAugust 29, 2019
About five years ago I went to Dr Karam. I was 38 years old, and he convinced me to do a mini facelift and fat transfer . Looking at as before and after pictures, I didn’t think it would be a big deal, on the photos that I was shown there were no signs of scars, everybody just looked young and rejuvenated, some of the photos looked as if they were women my age, and nothing was said to me that would make me think that it was going to be a major surgery. After the surgery, there are huge sutures on the side of my face, which eventually have left major scars that are visible, over the past five years, I have gotten micro needling, CO2 laser, many other cosmetic procedure is to try and make the scars blending, but unfortunately on the scars w after the surgery, theory huge sutures on the side of my face, which eventually have left major scars that are visible, and over the past five years, I have gotten micro needling, CO2 laser, many other cosmetic procedures to try and make the scars blend in more, but unfortunately-the scars are still very prominent . For awhile I had lamb from the fat transfer in my cheek area, which I tried to minimise with CO2 laser and all therapy, fortunately over time, it has gone down, but I’ve probably spent about $20,000 just in trying to fix the several issues I was unhappy with from the procedure . I went to the doctor Karam several times, with each time, him acting as though everything was normal, and that all of the issues I was having were “ just in my head”. It seems as though he considers himself such an expert that it is impossible for him to think he may ever be at fault . I truly regret having the surgery done-I was too young, and did not need such a major surgery-it did not improve my appearance at all, in fact I believe it had the opposite effect, having this scars makes me look much older and “worked on”. I recommend for anybody getting a surgery like this to ask questions, and find out about scars and placement of the scars , healing, placement of fat transfer, et cetera. I’m not one to usually write a negative review, and it’s taken me awhile to get to a point of doing this, but when I went to a new aesthetician earlier today to get a facial, one of the first thing she said was “did you have a facelift?” Then she asked me how old I was, and she said I can’t believe you would have a facelift at such a young age . Anyway, long story short I hope that this will be good information for both women who are looking into facelifts to be your best advocate, and for doctors to be honest about results

Photo of scar after 10 years

I’m saddened that people don’t believe me, so here is a picture. This is after spending over $20,000, trying to minimise the appearance by getting CO2 laser two different times, several treatments of micro needling, many with S petitions, spending money on of therapy to try and minimise the fat transfer bulge Close to my nose, etc. It was a very painful experience to go through emotionally. I know he is very skilled, and for many women it seems to work well, but for me, it certainly wasn’t the case, and I was very disappointed how my feelings and concerns were completely brushed off by him.
Fortunately overt time and with make up, the scar is blending in a little bit more, but getting the lift is definitely some thing I regret doing. I submitted my receipt of after surgery dialogue with Dr. Karam to show proof of the service, as well as this photo.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Yes- finally after all these years, I can somewhat blend it in with make up and other things like pulling my hair a bit forward to cover it up, but it was just a horrible experience, and some thing I regret. I wish I was more informed of where the sutures would’ve been placed, and other things. I only caution people who are interested in these procedures to be your best advocate, ask the hard questions, and do your research because there are long lasting effects

Aliha I also wanted to mention that I have gotten good results from Renuva under my scar. My doctor starts by untethering the attachments under the scar w a tiny cannula, where the scar tissue is adhering and pulling down. Then she puts a tiny bit of Renuva which is technically an implant because it is decellularized fat. It gradually gets replaced with your own fat. But where it has been placed on my scar it even improved the look of the skin - making it more pink and soft and smooth and less scar-white. It is expensive but permanent. Look for someone who knows how to put just the tiniest bit over several sessions so they don’t overfill. Especially since it is permanent. My doctor posted a video where she used it for a scar on the back of a woman’s leg.
Best of luck and hopefully it will all resolve soon. After 7 years I’m finally getting some relief! Don’t give up!! Hug!!

So sad to hear you have suffered this long with these issues. There should have been open discussion with you and the doctor. You should not have to cover it with the makeup. Did you ask if doctor Karam has complications insurance? If yes that should cover your repair surgery if you still would want to go with him. Thank you for sharing this info as it can be so valuable to future patients.

Thanks you for your care and concern. No, I have not looked into that, on my own I have done quite a bit of research and found other doctors to help with repairing (as much as they can) some of the scarring, and bulge from the fat transfer. I didn’t tried to go back to him several times after the surgery, telling him my concerns, but felt like I was completely brushed off and “seeing things that weren’t there”. So, I took it into my own hands and reached out to other doctors who were able to realise, understand, and help address my concerns

I feel for you can you please tell me one more thing when exactly you visited him ? what year? As it looks to me he had had quite a few not so successful surgeries in the 2010 early years up till 2018 and after that seem like his business has taken a big jump like so much good credit all over. Either he has learn his lessons to be more caring of his patients or what has happened then? But looking at now his post on social media its seem to me the same patients photos there, so is he really having that many patients these days? Just wondering. But in truth how he has dealt your case is not ethically right .Wishing you all the best.

I Believe these are all very good questions. And, I even question some of the people who have been unnecessarily defensive and abrasive regarding my comments,– I imagine that social media is a big component of the success of their business/ marketing and reputation , and that they work hard to keep The appearance of perfection on social media
