Before my surgery with Doctor Oppenheimer, I was...
Before my surgery with Doctor Oppenheimer, I was horribly insecure about my body. I had large, heavy breasts that sagged and made my back ache. They didn't fit my petite size 4-6 body at all and I was told many times that I looked "top heavy". In an attempt to shrink my size, I tried to lose weight many times but to no avail. The weight would come off, but the breasts would stay, causing my body to look even more disproportionate. Then, on a whim, I called Doctor O and went in for a consultation. He examined me, spent a long time speaking with me and I never once felt rushed or like I was silly for coming in. He took his time, and was honest with me. He told me that for my size, he had a strong feeling that insurance wouldn't cover it, and that maybe a lift would be a better route for me to take. I was adamant about wanting and needing a reduction, no matter what. But, he assured me he would not do something that could potentially disfigure my body or harm me in any way, no matter how badly I wanted the surgery. He also informed me of all the risks and the potential difficulties I could face when breastfeeding became an issue. I left feeling well-informed, yet hopeless...thinking there was no way insurance would come through, and I'd have to deal with my body the way it was. But just three months later, I got a life changing phone call. It was the insurance company. They would cover the surgery. 80%, in fact. So, a few phone calls, waiting days and $350.00 later, it was operation day! I was so excited I could hardly stand it. I went to the surgery center and Doctor O came in and asked me if I wanted to do a less invasive procedure, which would yield a slightly larger breast, or go for the gusto and make them quite small like I wanted. I said, do the more invasive procedure, I don't want any regrets. So, that's what he did. Afterwards, I felt amazing. The weight on my chest was gone. I could breathe, move, and dress myself easier. The anxiety over my appearance that I had felt for years just melted away. I was in a little amount of pain, but he did a good job of minimizing that as much as he could for me. After a week or two at home recuperating it kept getting better. The swelling reduced, the glue started to peel off, and the stitches were coming out. I could shower on my own, wear normal clothes and go out and do things. I still wasn't 100%, but I wasn't bedridden either. I ended up getting a small infection that, when I called his on-call nurse at night, was remedied quickly with a called in prescription to Walgreens which I picked up right then. No harm done. Now I am so happy with my body. Getting dressed takes no time at all, and I feel like I look like I was meant to look. I'm proportionate, wearing a size extra small-small in tops and dresses now and buying bras from the normal section of the store, or just going without one all together. It's incredibly amazing how I feel about myself now and I owe it all to Dr O and his staff at Clevens. Best decision I ever made and given the choice, I'd do it again, ten times over.
