Why hasn't anyone mentioned the pain associated with lip injections?! My experience was horrendous. I had a topical numbing cream AND and numbing stuff injected, and it STILL hurt like hell. It hurt to the point where I cried. Yes; I cried like a girl!
I will post updates but I had to hold the nurses hand and I was hyper-ventilating, taking short breaths. I DO have a low-pain threshold. I annoyed Dr Colgrove. He thought I was being dramatic but it actually DID hurt like hell. Trust me, I live on the East side of Atlanta and wanted to avoid traffic before 5pm. That didn't happen. I was actually IN PAIN.
I don't understand why no one else talks about the pain. Maybe I'm the only one...

Recovery
Here are some things people don't tell you about after lip injections:
1. The corners of my mouth hurt like hell afterwards and were tender. It hurts to pucker up to kiss your loved ones when you get home.
2. You can't bit into anything to eat (no sandwich or biting into chicken) it's uncomfortable.
3. I could feel the product settling into my lips. Maybe I'm over sensitive. I could feel slight cramping in my lips.
4. Ice your lips as much as possible helps with tender injected spots.
I actually want more injections for the corners and I still have some Juvederm left. I will go back in a month, but I know I need numbing shots and not just numbing cream. I also want to go to a different facility. Nothing is worse when you are in pain and someone is telling you "it's not that bad". When in actuality you ARE in pain.
The injections do nothing for me right now. If this will only get smaller, I definitely want more.

This makes me sad. My lips were numb the whole day I got injected, so I didn't feel any pain. I ate half a pizza and everything. Some of the feeling started to come back the next day. Are you sure you had lidocaine in the Juvederm itself? I believe some types don't. But I could be wrong. I am still a little sore a week later but I am good nonetheless.

Not Going Back (Few Things I forgot to Mention)
Just realized I said I was going back to get the rest of my Juvederm injected, but I'm not going back. I recommend finding a surgeon who will mix numbing drops with Juvederm to avoid pain if you have low pain tolerance like I do PLUS use numbing cream. I forgot to mention that the numbing shots he gave hurt, but afterwards, getting the lips filled was smooth sailing. Those numbing shots did way more justice than the cream alone. The combination allowed me to sit through the rest.
Also; I have had: botox for gummy smile, forehead wrinkles, and chin dimples, Belotero for under eye dark circles, and Radiesse for hollow cheeks after weight loss, and none of that hurt or was unbearable (never cried). This experience was upsetting because I wasn't expecting to be in that much pain. It was a burning/stinging sensation. My lips must be extra sensitive, and I never knew it until now. But to make it worse, Dr. Colgrove said, "Well, what happens when you stump your toe?" There is NOTHING worse than when you are in REAL pain, and someone says, "Oh, its not that bad, your exaggerating" WHILE your IN pain. He DID attempt to make me feel comfortable, and Amanda (assistant) was awesome. She made not feel so guilty about being in pain. Dr. Colgrove made me feel embarrassed or like I was over reacting, but I swear I wasn't. I'm not that kind of person. I'll never go back to him again.
I personally (looking back) think there was nothing wrong with my natural lips. Therefore I won't be getting anything else done in that area. And when I do I'll be going to the Ageless Center (loved them/ no pain) or Dr. Whiteman who has a pleasant attitude.

Thanks for your post! What did it feel like? Bee stings or more achy? Was a dental block an option for you?
