Male Rhinoplasty w/ Chin Augmentation

Earlier this year, my twenty-year-old son (with whom I am writing this review) told my husband and me that he was self-conscious of his profile - particularly the hump on his nose. As a mother, to me, he was perfect. But, also as a mother, all we want is for our children to become happy, healthy, self-confident adults. If he was not happy, then I wanted to support him however possible. That meant finding the best surgeon I could find. I was not going to allow anyone but the very best to operate on my son's face. I took a deep dive into rhinoplasty research. Name a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and I researched them. I read every review (every. single. review), I looked at every before/after photo, I read bios, listened to podcasts, read articles, watched videos...whatever resource was available, I took advantage of it. Which led me to Dr. Rahban.

Dr. Rahban was our first consultation and, in retrospect, there was no reason to look any further. Within minutes of examining our son's face from several different angles, both externally and internally, he knew exactly what needed to be done. He started explaining, in intricate detail, what he would do/revise...including recommending a chin augmentation. What?! I had just gotten on board with the idea of a rhinoplasty, but now a chin augmentation? No way. But Dr. Rahban explained why it was so important for the symmetry of his face. How, even with a rhinoplasty, his profile would not be improved with a weak chin. I questioned him - was this really necessary? He told me that if he could only perform one procedure on my son, he would choose the chin augmentation over the rhinoplasty. I was stunned. But I remember leaving his office with a feeling like we had just met with an excellent surgeon; our heads were swirling with all the information Dr. Rahban had given. I turned to my son when we got in the car and he had the biggest smile on his face. The bar had been set high.

We did our due-diligence and met with other doctors, but we kept going back to Dr. Rahban. His insight, knowledge and experience played on repeat in my head. I listed to his "Rhinoplasty 101" podcast at least three times. I looked at every male rhinoplasty photo on his website/Instagram so many times, I nearly memorized them all. You can find thousands of examples of female rhinoplasty on the web, but male rhinoplasty results are hard to find. No one, I mean no one, had nearly as many examples of male rhinoplasty results as Dr. Rahban. Our mind was made up.

From the time we signed the paperwork until the day of the surgery, I was a mess. What were we doing? Our son's face is perfect...why are we allowing someone to operate on him when there is no need? I checked in with my son several times, asking if he was sure this was what he wanted. He always replied with a resounding, "yes!" I prayed. I cried. But ultimately I kept reminding myself that my son's happiness was what mattered most. This was not about me. He has his whole life ahead of him...I want him moving through life feeling confident in himself. No one would want anything less for their child.

Let me also say that Dr. Rahban's staff is stellar. From fitting us into their schedule given our son's limited timeframe, to preparing us for the surgery, to helping us through recovery, they could not have been more kind and supportive. No question was too small or unimportant. They always quickly replied to my emails (and I sent a few) and never hesitated to let me know they were there for us if we needed anything. And a special shout out to Dr. Rahban's anesthesiologist. My son may not remember a lot from the day of the surgery, but he remembers her. Everyone was the best you could ask for. Knowing my son was in such good hands definitely helped ease my mind.

The recovery was exactly as it had been described to us. The first week (especially the first two days) was definitely uncomfortable. Not painful, which was surprising, but he was sore. I bought a wedge for him to sleep on (highly recommend) which helped a lot. His healing was, for lack of a better word, "textbook." My biggest fear going into this was that my son would not look like my son anymore. His nose would be too small, or his chin would be too big. But all of my fears were for naught. We are now ten weeks out from surgery and he still looks just like my son...only a better, happier, more confident version of himself. None of his friends have noticed or said a word about his nose...it is so natural! And I almost forget that he had a chin augmentation because the chin is so natural, you just forget! I am forever grateful to Dr. Rahban for his skill, for his understanding, for his kindness and support and for giving my son the best results we could possibly hope for.

If you are someone who is like I was...skeptical, worried, hesitant...I hope my honest review helps you with your decision. I wanted the best of the best and that is what we found with Dr. Rahban. We can't recommend him highly enough.
